Levan Kitojewitsch Tediaschwili ( Georgian ლევან თედიაშვილი ; born March 15, 1948 in Sagaredscho , Kakheti ) is a former Soviet wrestler and current Georgian politician .

Life

He was a member of Lokomotive Tbilisi and learned to wrestle there. He wrestled exclusively in free style and was one of the world's best between 1970 and 1980. The highlights of his career were the Olympic victories in 1972 in Munich and 1976 in Montreal . He also moved the German world-class wrestlers Horst Stottmeister from Leipzig and Peter Neumair from Munich a few times to the top step. In 1978 Harald Büttner was the only German wrestler to beat Tediaschwili.

After the political change in the Soviet Union, Tediashvili became involved in his native Georgia . He became a politician, is a member of the Georgian parliament and works as a lawyer at the University of Tbilisi. In September 2005 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .
