Career
Peter Neumair grew up in the large community of Hallbergmoos near Munich and began wrestling there as a child. Over the years he fought his way through the various youth and junior classes, starting for SV "Siegfried" Hallbergmoos, into the top German class of freestyle wrestlers. He dominated in the 1970s in the Federal Republic in the middle and light heavyweight class, but had a German competitor in Horst Stottmeister from Leipzig on the international stage , which he could not defeat. He fought several courageous fights against the Soviet wrestler Levan Tediaschwili , who was considered unbeatable, and was often only defeated on points against him. His best placement in an international competition was 2nd place at the 1976 European Championships in Leningrad . His greatest individual success was the victory over world champion Uwe Neupert from the GDR at the 1978 World Cup in Mexico City .
After he could not start at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 because of the Olympic boycott of the western states and there were also disagreements with his club Siegfried Hallbergmoos, to which he had remained loyal to his entire wrestling career, he resigned and kept himself fit with football and tennis . Peter Neumair is a master mason by profession.
