Prievidza (German Priwitz , Hungarian Privigye ) is a medium-sized city in Slovakia . It is located in Trenčiansky kraj . The city is also called "the greenest city".
Districts
There are the following five districts:
- Staré mesto ("Old Town")
- Píly
- Necpaly (incorporated in 1945)
- Kopanice
- Neighborhoods: Hradec (incorporated in 1964), Malá Lehôtka (incorporated in 1964), Veľká Lehôtka (incorporated in 1976)
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1113 in a document from the Hungarian King Koloman .
economy
Prievidza is the city with the largest retail area in relation to the number of inhabitants in Slovakia.
Prievidza is an important administrative center , and numerous commercial enterprises, especially from the banking sector, have settled here.
The city is also the seat of the mining company HBP ( Hornonitrianske Bane Prievidza ). The company is the most important lignite producer in Slovakia. It operates three mines in the Prievidza area: in Handlová , Cigeľ and Nováky . The conveying capacity in 2005 was 2.3 million tons and the number of employees was around 4,400. There are also many cultural institutions and schools in the city.
Culture
Among other objects there are also three remarkable churches under monument protection: Holy Trinity, Assumption of Mary and St. Bartholomew.
