Tužina (German Schmiedshau , Schmiedsheu or Schmitzheiß , Hungarian Kovácspalota - until 1907 Tuzsina ) is a municipality in the west-center of Slovakia with 1204 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Prievidza , part of Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The village is located in the upper part of the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin at the transition to the Strážovské vrchy Mountains . The Tužina brook , which is part of the Nitra river system, flows through the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 360 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Prievidza .
Neighboring municipalities are Čičmany in the north, Kľačno in the northeast, Nitrianske Pravno in the south and Chvojnica in the west, and the municipality also borders on the municipality of Valaská Belá .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1393 as Villa Fabri . At that time, the judge Hermann Heckel received permission to establish a second settlement on the Tužina brook, which soon merged with the original village. From the very beginning, history has been closely linked to the Bojnice Castle estate . Originally, mining, especially gold mining, was the main occupation in the area, with miners from the Hungarian mining towns and German-speaking countries being called up for this purpose. After the fall in the 16th century, there was almost no gold mined in 1614, after which agriculture and handicrafts were the main sources of income.
In 1787 there were 123 houses and 1624 inhabitants and in 1828 285 houses and 1922 inhabitants, in the first half of the 20th century there were even 3000 inhabitants. After the Second World War, the majority of the German population was expelled; further waves of emigration in the 1970s and 1980s reduced the population to around 1220.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
