Bojnice (German Weinitz , Hungarian Bajmóc ) is a small town in Slovakia near the Nitra River , west of the city of Prievidza .

General

Bojnice was first mentioned in writing in 1113. It is divided into the districts:

  • Bojnice
  • Bojnice-kúpele
  • Dubnica (incorporated in 1960)
  • Kúty

Bojnice is best known for the oldest zoo and the most visited castle in Slovakia, Bojnice Castle . Due to the medicinal springs , Bojnice is a health resort . The thermal water is mainly used for diseases of the locomotor system and nervous diseases. The actual city lies below the castle built on a travertine rock.
