Kamenec pod Vtáčnikom (German Kamenetz , Hungarian Kemenec ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,778 (December 31, 2019) that the prievidza district , part of the kraj Trenčiansky belongs.
geography
The community is located in the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin on the Lazný potok and Vidlicový potok , which flow into the Nitra in the neighboring village of Zemianske Kostoľany . The place name refers to the mountain Vtáčnik ( 1346 m nm ), the highest peak in the mountains of the same name , the foothills of which protrude into the place. The center of the village is at an altitude of 275 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Prievidza and 18 kilometers from Partizánske .
history
The present municipality was created in 1955 through the merger of the places Dolný Kamenec (German Unteramenetz ) and Horný Kamenec (German Oberkamenetz ).
Horný Kamenec was first mentioned in writing in 1355. The lower part was created a little later (first mentioned in 1518), which remained separate for unknown reasons and developed independently until the 20th century, despite belonging to a common property.

Infrastructure
There is a grocery store, a post office, a kindergarten and a primary school in the village. There is a connection to the state road 64 via a district road in Zemianske Kostoľany, three kilometers away; a train station on the Nové Zámky – Prievidza railway line is also located there.
