BRAVIA is a brand name for television sets of Sony and is available as Backronym for " B est R eSolution A udio V ISUAL I ntegrated A rchitecture".

To the product in-house developments under the name BRAVIA include priority since 2005 LCD - flat screen televisions with the television standard High Definition Television (HDTV) and projectors . The brand replaced the WEGA series that had been on the market since 1997.

In 2008, the 200 Hertz technology was presented at the International Radio Exhibition Berlin (IFA) and set new standards in the display of moving images on LCD televisions. Some BRAVIA models also have a Consumer Electronics Control interface with the BRAVIA Theater Sync function , in which the entire home entertainment system can be controlled with a remote control. Since 2011, Smart TV features (including Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV ) and DLNA capability and Internet connection ( LAN / WLAN ) as well as USB HDD recording have also been part of the range of models. As a graphical user interface that is XrossMediaBar (XMB) used.

The BRAVIA televisions and their components are manufactured in the Sony factories in Japan, in Mexicali in Mexico and in Nitra in Slovakia for the respective market regions and also consist of components imported from Brazil, Spain, the People's Republic of China and Malaysia.

Around two million BRAVIA televisions were produced worldwide in fiscal year 2007.

Sony has been introducing OLED televisions under the BRAVIA brand since 2017 . In January 2017, the A1E was presented with an X1 Extreme processor. The AF8 with 4K was presented at CES 2018. The AF9 was presented at IFA 2018.

The AG9 model followed in 2019 with an Acoustic Surface Audio that was improved compared to the AF9 and now supports Dolby Atmos . The AG9 is only 5 cm thick - compared to the AF9, which was twice as thick. It is available in 139 cm (55 "), 164 cm (65") and 195 cm (77 ").

With the ZG9, which was presented at CES 2019, Sony is introducing an 8K television for the first time . This is commercially available in 85 inches (215 cm) and 98 inches (248 cm). The recommended retail prices for the models are 15,999.00 euros (85 inches) and 79,999.00 euros (98 inches). The 8K resolution, 16 times higher than Full HD, is only visible on TVs of this size.
