4K2K is a high-resolution digital video format that has approximately four times as many picture elements (pixels) as Full HD . The designation 4K2K, with the two K as 1,000 prefixes for units of measurement, refers to the image resolution of approximately 4000 × 2000 pixels.

So far, two different resolutions are known for the 4K2K format:

  • 4096 × 2160 pixels - also known as 4K (occasionally "Cinema 4K")

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) decided on October 18, 2012 that Ultra HD should replace the previously propagated designation 4K. According to the definition, Ultra HD televisions must have a minimum resolution of 8 million pixels (four times as many pixels as with full HD televisions). The usual resolution is 3840 × 2160 pixels, but it can vary depending on the aspect ratio and manufacturer. In addition, Ultra HD televisions must have connections (inputs) with which Ultra HD content can be transmitted. Technically suitable for this are, for example, the HDMI interfaces from version 2.0 and DisplayPort from version 1.2 with four lines: 2160 MByte / s (17.28 GBit / s), sufficient for 3840 × 2400 or 4096 × 2560 pixels.
