Čereňany (until 1927 Slovak and "Cerene"; Hungarian Cserenye ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,730 (December 31, 2019) that the prievidza district of, a part kraj Trenčiansky heard.
geography
The village is located in the lower part of the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin on the left bank of the Nitra . The Vogelgebirge rises to the southeast and south of the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 258 m nm and is nine kilometers from Partizánske and 20 kilometers from Prievidza .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Cherimen in 1329 and initially belonged to the estate of Bojnice Castle . Then he came to that of the Sivý Kameň castle , as evidenced by a document from 1388. The church was built around 1440 and, with several changes, still exists today. In the 15th century the Paulines of Lefantovce kept part of the village, later it was families like Dóczy , Lessenyey , Palugyay and Hunyadi .
In 1828 there are 84 houses and 583 inhabitants.

Buildings
- Roman Catholic Magdalenenkirche, built Gothic around 1440 and modified several times, today designed in the Baroque style
- Country castle with a park, originally laid out around 1640 as a fortress in the Renaissance style, rebuilt in a classical style at the end of the 18th century
