Čavoj was first mentioned in writing as Chawoy in 1364 and was then owned by the Bossányi family . Because of the gold mining that took place here, the place and the mines were repeatedly the subject of legal disputes between various landlords. Gold mining lasted until the 17th century. When the Rudnay family ruled the place around the middle of the 17th century, attempts were made to mine lead, but with moderate results. From the 18th century there were only a few attempts to start mining again. The last landowners came from the Hellenbach family. In 1828 there were 110 houses and 772 residents, who at that time were employed as glassmakers, basket makers and weavers, among others.
