Nitrianske Sučany (1927-48 Slovak "Sučany"; Hungarian Nyitraszucsány - until 1907 Szucsán ) is a municipality in the western center of Slovakia with a population of 1,185 (December 31, 2019) that the prievidza district , part of the kraj Trenčiansky belongs .
geography
The municipality is located at the transition from the Strážovské vrchy mountains to the Danube hill country and is traversed by a tributary of the Nitrica river on the right. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 310 m nm and is seven kilometers from Nováky and 17 kilometers from Prievidza .
Neighboring communities are Diviacka Nová Ves in the north, Nováky in the east, Nitrica in the south and south-west, Horné Vestenice in the west and Uhrovské Podhradie in the north-west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Zucsan in 1249 , when it was converted from the estate of Neutra Castle to the property of the Zobor Abbey. After the 16th century he came to the Diocese of Neutra , in 1777 to the Neutra Chapter. In the years 1663 and 1664 the village was owed tribute to the Ottoman Empire. In 1828 there were 145 houses and 1011 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and fruit growing; there was also a marble quarry nearby.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 1221 residents lived in Nitrianske Sučany, of which 1113 were Slovaks, two Czechs and one Bulgarian; two residents belonged to a different ethnic group. 102 residents gave no information in this regard. 976 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Greek Catholic Church, five residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Baha'itum and one to the Mormons; three residents professed a different denomination. 74 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 150 inhabitants was not determined.
