Opatovce nad Nitrou (until 1927 Slovak "Opatovce"; German Abtsdorf , Hungarian Bajmócapati ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,563 (December 31, 2019) that the prievidza district , part of the kraj Trenčiansky heard.
geography
The village is located in the central part of the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin on the right bank of the Nitra . The municipality is flat and slightly hilly. The center of the village is at an altitude of 270 m nm and is a few kilometers from Bojnice and Prievidza .
history
The place was mentioned indirectly for the first time in 1113 in a document that defines the boundaries of the property belonging to the Neutra Abbey at that time. For this reason the village, which was founded later ( mentioned as Apathy in 1424 ), was named after the abbey. It belonged to the Skačany estate since 1468 and to the Neutra Chapter since 1777.
In 1828 there are 63 houses and 444 inhabitants.
In the past, the majority of the population was employed in agriculture, but today many work in industrial companies in the area.
