Jalovec (Hungarian Parlag - until 1907 Jalovec ) is a municipality in the west-center of Slovakia with 578 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Prievidza , part of Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the north-eastern part of the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin at the foot of the Žiar Mountains , in the Handlovka valley in the Nitra river system . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 351 m nm and is six kilometers from Handlová and 11 kilometers from Prievidza .
Neighboring municipalities are Sklené in the north and northeast, Ráztočno in the east, Handlová ( Morovno district ) in the south and Chrenovec-Brusno in the west.
history
Jalovec was first mentioned in writing as Alloc in 1430 , but it was founded in the 12th century. At the beginning of the 13th century the local area belonged to the Dobak family estate , from 1244 to the dominion of Weinitz Castle , with the residents having to deliver brooms to the castle, among other things. In 1553 Jalovec had three portals . In the 15th and 16th centuries several glassworks founded by the Pálffy family worked near Jalovec. In 1778 the village had 203 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 26 houses and 183 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, farmers and shindlers.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 589 inhabitants in Jalovec, including 580 Slovaks and two Czechs . Three residents indicated a different ethnic group and four residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
368 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, six residents the Greek Catholic Church, four residents each for the Apostolic Church, the Evangelical Church AB and the Reformed Church, and one resident each for the Baha'i, the Christian communities and the Old Catholic Church; 12 residents professed a different denomination. 134 inhabitants were without religious denomination and the denomination of 53 inhabitants was not determined.
