Gurjaani ( Georgia გურჯაანი , gʊrd͡ʒɑːnɪ ) is a city in the region of Kakheti in Georgia .

Gurdschaani is located approx. 122 km east of the capital Tbilisi and is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name . Gurdschaani has 8024 inhabitants (2014).

The health resort Akhtala is located near the city .

history

Archaeological excavations have shown that the urban area has been inhabited since the Stone Age.

In 1915 the city was connected to the railway network with the Tbilisi – Telavi line. The line is now operated by the Georgian Railway, Sakartwelos Rkinigsa . However, passenger traffic no longer takes place here.

Attractions

Near the city are the monastery churches of Gurdschaani and Watschnadsiani from the 8th / 9th centuries. Century. Both are All Saints Churches (Qelazminda).
