Natela Iankoshvili

Natela Iankoschwili ( Georgian ნათელა იანქოშვილი , also: Natela Iankoshvili ; born August 28, 1918 in Gurdschaani , Georgia ; † 2008 ) was a Georgian painter .

Life

Natela Iankoschwili studied from 1937 to 1943 at the Art Academy in Tbilisi and exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, mainly in Georgia and the Soviet Union . Her main subjects were portraits and landscapes, whereby she developed her very own formal language. In 1960 she was the first Georgian woman to have an extensive solo exhibition in the Georgian State Picture Gallery in Tbilisi. She was married to the Georgian writer Lado Awaliani and has no children.

The Natela Iankoshvili House Museum was founded in Tbilisi in 2000 . The artist museum contains paintings, graphics and objects from her life.

Her works include a series of illustrations for the Georgian national epic The Warrior in a Tiger Skin .
