Hans Gstöttner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Gstöttner (born December 2, 1967 in Halle / Saale ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Gstöttner started wrestling in 1978 in Halle / Saale . Under the guidance of trainer Rainer Kamm , he developed into an excellent middleweight freestyle wrestler at SC Chemie Halle . From 1988 he started regularly at the international championships and achieved his greatest successes in the first years of his career. After German reunification in 1990, he moved to "KSV Germania Aalen ", for which he competed in the German Bundesliga for many years. In the second half of his wrestling career he devoted himself more to his medical studies, which he successfully completed, so that training took a back seat.

He made his debut on the international wrestling mat at the European Championships in Manchester in 1988 , where he immediately became vice European middleweight champion in free style. In the final he was defeated by Yuri Vorobiev from the Soviet Union . At the Olympic Games of the same year in Seoul he reached a good eighth place. In 1989 he was absent from the international championships, but celebrated a big comeback in 1990, because he became European middleweight champion in Poznan . He defeated Eliadis from Cyprus , Postma from the Netherlands , Szavar from Poland , Gazur from Czechoslovakia , Sebahattin Öztürk from Turkey and Luchman Jabrailow from the Soviet Union. At the World Championships in Tokyo that year , he didn't get along so well. He lost to Royce Alger from the USA and Dunshagin from Mongolia , among others, and only came in eighth.

Things went better for him again at the 1991 European Championships in Stuttgart . Despite a surprising opening defeat against Martin Gazur from Czechoslovakia , he fought his way to the finals and was defeated there against Elmadi Jabrailow from the USSR with 2: 5 on points. At the 1991 World Cup in Varna , Hans Gstöttner was not in the shape of spring and had to be satisfied with 16th place.

In 1992 Hans won no medals, but came in a good fifth place at the European Championships by beating last year's world champion Rahmat Sukra from Bulgaria and narrowly missed a medal with a fourth place at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . In the battle for the bronze medal, he was clearly defeated by the strong Iranian Rasoul Khadem with 0: 6 points, after having defeated world and European champions of previous years with Soukra, Josef Lohyna from the Czech Republic and Sebahattin Öztürk .

After a somewhat weaker year in 1993, he triumphed again in 1994 and won a bronze medal both at the European Championships in Rome and at the World Championships in Istanbul . In Rome he defeated the brawny Belarusian Alexander Sawko , against whom he had lost twice in 1993, in the battle for the bronze medal with 2-1 on points. Hans Gstöttner also delivered six great fights at the world championship, five of which he won.

In the next few years, Hans Gstöttner fought until 2000, he could not win any more medals. For the Olympic Games in 1996 and 2000, he could no longer qualify.

After the end of his sports career, Gstöttner worked as a doctor.
