history

Foundation and first years

Wrestling is one of the oldest sports and has been a form of competition for several thousand years. Documented here is, for example, the inclusion of the sport of wrestling in the ancient Olympic Games in 708 BC. In the middle of the 19th century, the sport of wrestling experienced a flourishing in Germany. Outstanding strength performances and combative competitions have shown sensational performances and inspired imitators. So it came about that in 1897 Jahn Pohl appeared in the Luckenwalder "Tivoli" to challenge strong men to a duel. Out of the resulting enthusiasm, the 1st Luckenwalder athletes club "Adler 1897" was founded in the "Braband" restaurant. The influential members of the early years were Karl Papritz, Adolf Schollbach, Ewald Schneider and Adolf Frank. The bar “Querhammel” served the athletes as a training facility. Before the first exercise mat could be bought, training took place on the bare floor. At that time there were no weight classes. The athletes were divided into four performance classes. Entry began in the fourth performance class. With victories they could qualify for higher classes.

In 1898 the club joined the Central German Athletics Association in Halle. This enabled participation in Central German championships. Max Schneider secured the first title in Central German championships for the Club in 1899. This was the start of his career as a professional wrestler. in the following years he won the title of European champion several times.

However, the first years of the new century were also marked by upheavals. Due to splintering in the founding club, new wrestling clubs such as "Germania" and "Eiche" were formed.

In 1912 Gearg Kralisch joined the club and was able to establish himself in the first team due to his good performance. In 1922 he also acted as technical manager. After 1945 he took on the youth and promoted wrestlers like Kurt Spieler and Peter Tommy.

First and Second World War

Shortly before the beginning of the First World War , the Luckenwalder Athletes Club was affiliated with the Berlin "Athletes and Artists Association". Due to the events during the First World War and the associated decline in sporting activities, the wrestling match in Luckenwalde came to a standstill. After the World War, however, 17 sports comrades got together to rebuild rings in Luckenwalde. So they founded the "Sports Club for Heavy and Athletics". Until 1933 this was led first by Adolf Schollbach and then by Hartmund Puls.

Ferdinand Detzel was successful at this time. As a successful wrestler, he also took on the role of trainer. With his help, the club was able to achieve the team title of Central German Champion in 1928. Ferdinand Detzel did not end his active career until he was fifty in 1956.

In 1933 the "Luckenwalder Kraftsportvereinigung 1897" was founded under the direction of Emil Heinzdorf. Emil Heinzdorf was already a member of the "Sports Club for Heavy and Athletics" as a schoolboy. Due to the effects of the Second World War , the club life came to a standstill again.

Post-war period - Dynamo Luckenwalde

After the Second World War, the Luckenwalder wrestlers were only able to reorganize themselves in 1949. Wrestling was practiced first in the company sports association "Tewa Luckenwalde" and then later in "Motor Luckenwalde". Ferdinand Detzel took over the management of the wrestling department, and later Rudolf Ehmke, who was also active as a referee until the 1970s.

In 1953, he joined the "Dynamo Luckenwalde" sports community and thus the performance-oriented orientation. Gerhard Rübekeil and Günter Keil achieved their first successes at the Freestyle Championships of the GDR in Leuna. Gerhard Rübekeil secured the first title for Luckenwalde, Günter Keil won a bronze medal.

In 1954, he was promoted to the GDR league after successful battles against Magdeburg, Leipzig and Dresden. In addition, there were still all-German encounters. Due to the successes during this time, a performance center for Greco-Roman wrestling was built in Luckenwalde. With the coach Rolf Wielkowski a league team (highest class in the GDR) was formed in 1957. The wrestlers included: Horst Streben, Klaus Janke, Klaus Fink, Horst Grahl, Walter Engel, Günter Keil, Rolf Wiechers, Karl-Heinz Braun, Kurt Spieler, Gottfried Sander, Kurt Gauer, Werner Tschimmel, Günter Rahnfeld, Peter Tommys, Heinz Schnelle and Liebetrau.

In 1959 the first own training facility for the wrestlers was set up. For this purpose, an old garage in the People's Police District Office was expanded. The athletes at the performance base initially lived in the former "Wintergarten" restaurant until they moved into a villa on Schützenstrasse. In 1963 the company moved again. Both the training hall and the accommodation were set up in a former social building of the "Rave" brickworks.

In the early 1960s, the later successful wrestlers Hartmut Puls , Klaus Pohl , Dieter Jerschnek, Peter Wismer, Dieter Heuer , Manfred Schimming, Gerhard Holz, Peter Döring , Fredy Schulze, Manfred Maca, Diethard Markowski, Hannes Hönig and Henry Thieme began.

Another step towards performance orientation took place in 1963. The trainers Helmut Börner and Wolfgang Brösicke began to set up a performance center for free wrestling. At the same time, wrestling became the main sport at the children's and youth sports school in Luckenwalde. The measures paid off and the German Wrestling Association of the GDR awarded Luckenwalde with the junior cup in 1964. The coaches of the sports school at that time were Kurt Thäle and Leo Rochlitzer.

Due to the good youth work, the first big success with the men on an international level was celebrated in 1966. The Greco-Roman specialist Klaus Pohl won the first European title for Luckenwalde. Also in freestyle in 1968 an exclamation mark with the 6th place at the Olympic Games could be set by Peter Döring. In 1972 Horst Mayer and Udo Schröder were able to confirm this result with a sixth place each at the following Olympic Games. Karl-Heinz Stahr won the first world championship medal for Luckenwalder in 1973 with a second place in Tehran.

In the following years athletes from Luckenwalde could celebrate not only the numerous national titles but also international successes. There are the following medal winners at the European Championships: Hartmut Puls, Benno Paulitz , Dieter Heuer, Dietmar Hinz , Fred Hempel , Harald Büttner , Hans-Dieter Brüchert , Gerald Brauer, Roland Gehrke , Jörg Kotte, Hans-Peter Franz, Karsten Polky and Heiko Courtship . The following medal winners can also be recorded at world championships: Harald Büttner, Roland Gehrke, Roland Dudziak , Uwe Westendorf , Mirko Jahn, Karsten Polky and Heiko Balz.

The greatest success for the Luckenwalder wrestlers was the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games by Hans-Dieter Brüchert.

The most successful athletes of the 80s were the two world champions Roland Gehrke and Harald Büttner (first world champion for Luckenwalde 1978).

The Luckenwalder were also successful as a team. Several GDR championship titles could be won.

The Luckenwalder experienced a deep cut in the competitive sports business through the unification of the two German states and the associated dissolution of the competitive sports structures of the GDR. The Ringer Association of DDR effective on December 8, 1990 the German wrestler confederation at. The police sports association under the direction of Peter-Michael Diestel tries to preserve the substance of the performance centers, but cannot prevent the sports school in Luckenwalde from being closed, the sports students moving back to their hometowns and more than 20 top athletes joining the Bundesliga clubs in the old federal states .

Due to the dissolution of the performance base, former coaches got involved in the re-establishment of the club. The 1st Luckenwalder Sports Club was re-established on June 14, 1990 under the club's president, Volkhard Spielhagen. With the moral support of the honorary member Peter-Michael Diestel, a powerful association could be built. A great success was already celebrated in 1992. Heiko Balz won the silver medal at the Olympic Games . With the support of the city of Luckenwalde, the German Sports Association and the German Wrestling Association, Luckenwalde received the status of a federal base for wrestling. This secured the training positions for Fred Hempel and Jörn Levermann.

Weight room of the 1st LSC

The youth work also intensified. In 1992, an agreement between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the State of Brandenburg and the Brandenburg Wrestling Association created a state performance base for the promotion of young talent. A sports school was set up again, where the coach Michael Kleinschmidt offers the optional subject wrestling.

On April 24, 1994, the Luckenwalder wrestlers were given a new base. The sports complex consists of a sports hall with four wrestling mats, a weight room, classrooms, offices and bed rooms. This gives the athletes optimal training opportunities.
