There Dudziak had the opportunity to train together with world class wrestlers such as Roland Gehrke (European and World Champion), Harald Büttner (European and World Champion) and Hans-Dieter Brüchert (multiple medalist at European and World Championships and Olympic runner-up). Reinhold Kwasny , Fred Hempel , Reinhard Mehlhorn and Wolfgang Brösicke were among his coaches .

At national level, Roland Dudziak was able to compete with Uwe Neupert (European and world champion) and Torsten Wagner (vice world champion 1986), which helped him in his sporting development. Roland Dudziak was successful in his first appearances in 1985 in light heavyweight (90 kg) in the freestyle national team of the GDR. In 1985 he won the international FILA tournament in Mongolia and the German Grand Prix in Aschaffenburg in this weight class. In the group final he lost to the later disqualified Iranian wrestler Mohammad Hassan Mohebbi , who lost to William Scherr in the World Cup final.
