Udo Schröder

Udo Schröder (born December 12, 1950 in Herne ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Udo Schröder grew up in Brandenburg Wittenberge and began there in the SSG Werner soul ties with the rings . Due to his talent, he was soon delegated to the GDR top club SG Dynamo Luckenwalde , where he developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler. As early as 1970 he was the first time GDR lightweight champion.

This was followed by appearances in five international championships in the years up to 1974. Udo always achieved respectable results, although he was denied the leap into the medal ranks. His best result was fifth at the 1972 European Championships in Katowice , where he also achieved two notable victories over the German silver medalist at the 1964 Olympic Games, Klaus Rost, and the Soviet representative Vasily Kazakov .

At the World Championships in 1971 in Sofia , Udo Schröder had already finished sixth with four wins and he also took the same place at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich in the lightweight category. He finished his international wrestling career with a 6th place at the 1974 European Championships in Madrid .
