Ruslan Nuralijewitsch Ashuralijew ( Russian Руслан Нуралиевич Ашуралиев ; born February 20, 1950 in Makhachkala , Dagestani ASSR ; † November 27, 2009 ibid) was a Soviet wrestler . He was multiple world champion and winner of the bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich in free style in light and welterweight.

Career

Ruslan Aschuralijew comes from Dagestan and began as a teenager with the rings . After initial success, he was delegated to "Uroshai" Makhachkala and formed there by the coaches Ali Aliyev and S. Musayev into one of the world's best freestyle wrestlers in light and welterweight in the 1970s.

In 1969 he won a tournament for the best young wrestlers from the socialist states in Minsk ahead of Siegfried Jozlowski from the GDR and his compatriot Kagirow. In 1971 Ruslan was the first welterweight winner at the Völker Spartakiade of the USSR, ahead of Marsagishvili and Jelkanow, and was thus the top Soviet wrestler in his weight class in one fell swoop.

His career in international championships began at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . Ruslan had trained into the lightweight, which had cost him a lot of substance. He won four fights in Munich but had no chance against Kikuo Wada from Japan, who wrestled in outstanding form, and especially against Dan Gable from the USA . After all, he still won the bronze medal .

In the following years he no longer trained, but started in the welterweight division. At the 1973 World Cup in Tehran , he knew how to convince and came among other things. a. to victories over the strong Adolf Seger from Germany and Jan Karlsson from Sweden , but was defeated by the Iranian Mansour Barzegar just on points and became vice world champion.

In 1974 he was even more successful. He was first European champion in Madrid , where he also defeated the German wrestlers from East and West Adolf Seger and Udo Schröder and then he also won the World Cup in Istanbul that year . In 1975 Ruslan only started at the World Cup in Minsk , where he presented himself in brilliant form. He won his six fights early and was world champion for the second time without missing points. He also won prematurely over Mansour Barzegar from Iran .

As a favorite, Ruslan went to the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . However, he was quite a distance from his previous year's form. He lost against Mansour Barzegar and against the American Stanley Dziedzic each on points and had to be content with the ungrateful 4th place. When Ruslan only came in 7th place at the 1977 World Cup in Lausanne after defeats against Reşit Karabacak from Turkey and Mansour Barzegar, he was no longer used in international championships.
