Ismail Juszeinow (born February 10, 1948 ) is a former Bulgarian wrestler . In 1970 and 1972 he was European champion in free style lightweight.

Career

Ismail Juszeinow comes from the Turkish minority in Bulgaria . He began wrestling with Arda Krdshali as a teenager and moved to the central sports club of the army, CSKA Sofia , when he was 18 . There he was trained by his trainer Suleyman Khassanow to be an excellent freestyle wrestler.

In 1970 he was used at the European Championships in Berlin . This was his first start in a major international championship. He was in Berlin with four wins and despite losing to Nodar Hohaschwili from the Soviet Union the same European champion at lightweight. On the way there he also defeated the German Jürgen Luczak . Ismail Juszeinow was also used at the World Championships in Edmonton that same year . He fought very well there and defeated u. a. also the Soviet representative Nasrulah Nasrulajew , wrestled against the American Bobby Douglas and only had to admit defeat on points to the Iranian Abdollah Movahed, who dominated the lightweight class of freestyle wrestlers at the time . He was thus vice world champion.

In 1971 there were no European championships. At the World Championships in Sofia Ismail Juszeinow managed to get back into the medal ranks. He even managed a draw against Abdollah Movahed, but he had to admit defeat to the new US superstar Dan Gable , who also became Olympic champion a year later .

In the 1972 Olympic year, Ismail Juszeinow was again European champion in Katowice with five wins and one draw. So he went to the Olympic Games in Munich with great hopes . He also won his first two fights there, but was then defeated in the next two rounds against Ruslan Aschuraliew (USSR) and Ali Sahin (Turkey) and only came in 10th place.

After this disappointment, Ismail Juszeinow was no longer used in international championships in the next few years. It wasn't until 1975 that he started again at the World Championships in Minsk , where he won the bronze medal . Five wins were compared to two defeats. It was Pawel Pinigin from the USSR and Tsedendambyn Natsagdordsch from Mongolia who defeated him.

In 1976, Ismail Juszeinow was sent back to Leningrad at the European Championships. He fought his way into the final there and was defeated in this Alexander Matwejew (USSR) on points. But he didn't make the jump to the Olympic Games in Montreal . He was defeated in the Bulgarian Olympic elimination against Doncho Zelew and had to leave this place at the Olympic Games.

After 1976 Ismail Juszeinow started at no other international championships.
