Nick Matuhin (Russian: Никита Матюхин, Nikita Matuhin ; born April 5, 1990 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a German wrestler .

Life

Nick Matuhin came to Germany with his parents in the early 2000s and was naturalized there. He started wrestling in Luckenwalde in 2001 . From 2002 he attended the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Oberschule in Luckenwalde, a high school with a focus on sports. As a member of the 1. Luckenwalder SC he was trained by Heiko Röll and at the secondary school by Olaf Bock and Michael Kleinschmidt. In the junior national team and later in the national team, the two-time world champion Alexander Leipold was added as a coach.

Nick Matuhin completed his training as a fire supervisor at the state fire brigade school in Eisenhüttenstadt and is currently a member of the fire brigade's sports promotion group, exempt from the Potsdam professional fire brigade.

Career

As a junior, Nick Matuhin won German heavyweight championship titles in all age ranges between 2005 and 2009. His international career began at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Istanbul in 2006 , where he was one of the youngest participants at the age of 16 and took 5th place in the weight class up to 100 kg body weight. In 2007 he won his first medal at the European Junior Championships (Cadets) in Warsaw . He finished there in 2nd place, losing in the final against Tornike Chideschwili from Georgia . In the same year he came in the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Beijing in the heavyweight division on the 5th place. He took the same place at the Junior European Championship (Juniors) 2008 in Košice , while he only came in 10th place at the Junior World Championship 2008 in Istanbul.

In 2009 he finally won a bronze medal at the Junior European Championships (Juniors) in Tbilisi . In the fight for this medal he came to a clear point victory over the Turkish Yalçın Sözen. In 2009 he was also the first German champion among seniors ahead of Jens Brosowski from Zella-Mehlis. He repeated this success in 2011, where he won ahead of Stefan Kehrer from ' ASV Mainz 1888 .

In mid-2009, he seriously injured his shoulder during preparation training for the Junior World Championship. It was only in the 2010/11 Bundesliga season that he was able to fight for his club again.

At the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund, he finished 5th.

March 2012 Nick Matuhin played the European Championships in Belgrade . After losing in the second fight against the later title holder Taha Akgül , Turkey, he fought his way (without a fight) for a European championship bronze medal with victories over Predrag Budić, Serbia, and Bakhtiyar Akhmedow , Russia. But after winning the first round he lost this fight against Ihor Dsjatko from Belarus and came in 5th place. At the Olympic Games in London he lost to Artur Taymazov , Uzbekistan and Komeil Ghasemi from Iran, where he finished 17th.

At the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi, he finished 5th, and in 2014 at the World Championships in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) he was 9th as the best German freestyle wrestler. At the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas, he was eliminated after an opening defeat against Levan Berianidze , Armenia.

Due to illness, Nick Matuhin only had one chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in Istanbul in 2016. There, however, he lost to the later bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Rio, Ibrahim Saidau from Belarus. Thus he missed the renewed Olympic qualification.

After 1. Luckenwalder SC withdrew from the Bundesliga, he changed clubs for the first time in the 2016/17 season and became German runner-up with KSV Ispringen.

Since KSV Ispringen withdrew from the official Bundesliga of the German Wrestling Federation for the 2017/18 season and started in the alternative German wrestling league, Matuhin and coach Bernd Reichenbach from KSV Ispringen moved to the southern Baden Bundesliga club TuS Adelhausen. The team reached the semi-finals and thus wrote the greatest success in the history of the TuS Adelhausen club. In the 2018/19 season, TuS Adelhausen failed again in the semifinals. Matuhin won each of his bets through technical superiority.

After a one-year break from individual competitions, Matuhin started a comeback at the 2018 German Championships in Aschaffenburg under the supervision of his new trainer, Aleksander Sommer. He decided each of his duels early for himself and won his 12th DM title. At the World Championships in Budapest, he lost to the Turkish Olympic champion of 2016 Taha Akgül on points in the opening fight .
