Johannes Kessel (born October 28, 1989 ) is a German wrestler . He was German champion in 2012 and CISM military world champion in 2014 in free style in heavyweight .

Career

Johannes Kessel started wrestling at KSC Graben-Neudorf as a teenager in 1998 . He soon concentrated on the free style. The now 1.86 meter tall and approx. 100 kg heavy athlete wrestles as an adult in the light heavyweight or heavyweight division . He was or is trained by Bernd Bobrich , Frank Heinzelbecker and Alexander Leipold . After KSC Graben-Neudorf, he fought for KSV Wiesental and KSV Berghausen and has been playing for Bundesliga club SV Germania Weingarten since 2010 . He is a soldier in a sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr .

Since 2006, Johannes Kessel has achieved good placements at German championships in the junior and senior class. In 2006, he took 3rd place in the German A-Youth Championship in the weight class up to 85 kg. In 2008 he took the same place in the light heavyweight division at the German junior championship and a little later also in the men's light heavyweight division. In 2009 he won his first German championship title in the junior light heavyweight division ahead of Kevin Schwäb from ASV Dieburg . In the men's category, he took second place in the same year. In the final he was beaten by Stefan Kehrer from KSV Ketsch . In 2010 and 2011 he did not take part in any German championships. In 2012, starting in the heavyweight division, he won his first German senior title. He referred Nico Graf from KFC Leipzig , Franz Süß from AV Germania Markneukirchen and Toni Bernhardt from KSC Motor Jena to their places. In 2013 he was German runner-up behind Nick Matuhin and came third in the German championship in 2014 behind Nick Matuhin and Robin Ferdinand.

Johannes Kessel started at international championships for the first time in 2009. He finished 7th at the Junior European Championship in Tbilisi and 12th place at the Junior World Championship in Ankara , both starting in the light heavyweight division. In 2010 he came at the European Heavyweight Championships in Baku in 12th place and at the World Light Heavyweight Championships in Moscow on 20th place. In 2013 he competed at the World Championships in Budapest. There he lost his first fight against Aiaal Lazarew from Kyrgyzstan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 23rd place.

Johannes Kessel achieved a remarkable success at the 2014 Military World Championship in Fort Dix / USA. He won the title of military world heavyweight champion there. On the way to this success he defeated u. a. the Chinese world class wrestler Zhiwei Deng and in the final Dmitri Popow from Kazakhstan.
