Bernd Bobrich (born January 6, 1955 in Leuna ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Bobrich started wrestling as a child. Because of his talent, he was accepted at the children's and youth sports school in Halle . He became a member of the SC Chemie Halle and was led by the coaches around Alois Pachmann to the top European class of freestyle wrestlers.

1974 and 1975 Bobrich was GDR junior flyweight champion and in 1976 for the first time GDR champion in bantamweight . In the junior division he also reached 6th place at the 1974 European Junior Championship in Haparanda and 4th place at the 1975 World Junior Championship in Haskowo / Bulgaria , both in flyweight categories.

In 1977 Bernd Bobrich was used for the first time in a world championship in Bursa, Turkey , and came in 9th place. At the European Championships in Sofia in 1978 , he ended up in 7th place after a victory over the Swiss Kuratli and two narrow points defeats.

At the European Championships in Bucharest in 1979 , Bernd just missed a medal with 4th place in the bantamweight division. At the world championship of the same year in San Diego , after two defeats, it was soon the end of the line for him. In 1980 he came in 5th place at the European Championships in Prievidza , but was not nominated for the Olympic Games in Moscow .

At the European Championships in Łódź in 1981 , Bobrich celebrated his first major success by winning the Vice European Champion title. He needed four wins and lost only to the Bulgarian Stefan Ivanov . At the World Championships in Skopje in the same year he came 4th in his pool and 9th overall.

In 1983 Bernd Bobrich took an excellent fifth place both at the European Championships in Budapest and at the World Championships in Kiev . He also achieved 5th place at the 1984 European Championships in Jönköping . Participation in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles was denied Bernd by the boycott of these games by the GDR government.

At the end of his career, Bobrich was again vice European champion in bantamweight at the European Championships in 1985 in Leipzig .

After finishing his active wrestling career, Bernd Bobrich became a trainer and worked, among other things, in the Badischer Wrestling Association.
