from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dániel Ligeti (born July 31, 1989 ) is a Hungarian wrestler . He won a bronze medal in free style heavyweight at the 2011 European Championships .

Career

Dániel Ligeti started wrestling as a teenager in 1994. He belongs to the sports club Haladas Vasuta SE Szombathely , where István Veréb is his trainer, and only wrestles in free style. He is a sports student and started at a height of 1.88 meters first in the light heavyweight (weight class up to 96 kg body weight) and since 2010 in the heavyweight (weight class up to 120 kg body weight). He is well known in German wrestling circles, because he has previously started for SV Untergriesbach and helped this club to move up to the 1st Bundesliga. From the 2011/12 season, however, he will compete for TuS Adelhausen .

Since 2006, Dániel Ligeti has regularly participated in the international junior championships. The greatest success he achieved was winning the European runner-up at the 2008 European Junior Championship in Košice , where he finished 2nd behind the Russian Juri Belonowski . Otherwise he had to record three fifth places as the best result at these championships, including a fifth place at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Ankara .

In the seniors he was already used at the European Championships 2008 in Tampere in the light heavyweight division, where he lost after two victories in the semifinals against Georgi Tibilow from Ukraine and in the fight for a bronze medal against the Turk Hakan Koc . At the international championships in 2009 he did not do so well. Both at the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius and at the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark he was eliminated early and only finished 18th in both events.

At the beginning of 2010, Dániel Ligeti moved from light heavyweight to heavyweight. He became the Hungarian heavyweight champion that year and came 7th at the European championship this year in Baku after defeating Johannes Kessel from Germany and losing to Alexei Schemarov from Belarus . At the 2010 World Cup in Moscow , he was even more successful. After two victories he lost there against the Olympic champion and multiple world champion Biljal Machow from Russia and also lost the fight for a bronze medal against Levan Berianidze from Georgia , but the 5th place, which he took with it, is very respectable.

He then won his first medal at an international championship at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund . There he defeated Chadschimurad Istapajew from Belgium , lost to Fatih Çakıroğlu from Turkey and then won a bronze medal with victories over Aleksander Chozianiwski, Ukraine and Nick Matuhin , Germany. At the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul , Dániel Ligeti lost against Jamaladdin Magomedow from Azerbaijan on points (0: 2 rounds, 5: 9 points). Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 17th place. The year 2011 came to a conciliatory end for him with a victory at the so-called FILA test tournament for the Olympic Games in London , where he won ahead of Edgaro Lopez from Puerto Rico , Deng Zhiwei, China and Taha Akgül, Turkey.

Dániel Ligeti was also successful again at the 2012 European Championships in Belgrade . He fought his way there with victories over Dawit Modsmanashvili , Georgia, Jose Cuba Vazquez, Spain and Dimitar Kumchev, Bulgaria up to the final, in which he lost against Taha Akgül on points. At the Olympic Games in London he lost his first fight against Alexei Shemarov. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 12th place.

At the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi, Dániel Ligeti again missed a medal in free style. He defeated there Robert Baran, Poland and Igor Fjodorow from Lithuania, but then lost to Taha Akgül and Jamaladdin Magomedow, which meant 5th place.
