Career

Iossif Tschuhaschwili is of Georgian descent, but has started for Belarus since the beginning of his career. He has been wrestling since 1999, concentrating on the Greco-Roman style. He is a member of the army and starts for the Minsk Army Sports Club . His most famous coaches were or are Alexander Scheleg and Komandar Madschidow . At a height of 1.88 meters, he is fully in the heavyweight category, the weight class up to 120 kg body weight.

In the first few years he achieved outstanding results at the World Military Championships in Baku in 2006 , in Hyderabad in 2007 and in Split in 1008 , all of which were filled with strong wrestlers. In 2006 he was 3rd, in 2007 2nd and again in 2008 3rd, thus winning three medals. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku, he came to his first use in a regular World Cup. He won two fights there, but then lost to Mijaín López from Cuba and Juri Patrikejew from Armenia and finished in 7th place.

At the European Championships in Tampere in 2008 , he then succeeded in winning a bronze medal. He lost there again in his first fight against Juri Patrikejew, but then secured this bronze medal in the consolation round with victories over Rocco Daniele Ficara from Italy and Yannick Szczepaniak from France . In 2008 he was also the Grand Prix of Germany in Dortmund at the start and reached there behind Mijaín López but before Alexander Anuchin from Russia to second place.

An excellent result achieved Iossif Tschuhaschwili then at the World Cup 2009 in Herning / Denmark . He won there over Masoud Hashemzadeh from Iran and Nurbek Ibragimow from Kyrgyzstan , then lost to Mijaín López, won over Rafael Barreno Martinez from Venezuela and was narrowly defeated in the battle for a bronze medal against the Turkish Rıza Kayaalp .

In the following years he was repeatedly used at world and European championships, but was never able to place himself in the front of the field. In 2012 he had another great success, because he qualified for the Olympic Games in London with a 2nd place behind Heiki Nabi from Estonia at the tournament in Taiyuan / China . In London he lost his first fight against Heiki Nabi from Estonia. Since this reached the final, he was able to continue in the consolation round, in which he first defeated Lukasz Banak from Poland, but then lost in the fight for an Olympic bronze medal against Johan Eurén from Sweden. Therefore he stayed in 5th place.

At the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi, he came very close to a medal with a 5th place. He defeated there Mindaugs Mizgaitis, Lithuania, lost to the world champion Riza Kayaalp , Turkey, triumphed over Radomir Petkovic, a starting Azerbaijan Serbs lost the battle for the bronze medal against Guram Pherselidse from Georgia. At the World Championships in Budapest in September 2013, he first won over Hwang Jong-won, South Korea, but then lost somewhat surprisingly to Robert Smith from the United States and therefore only came in 12th.
