Chassan Macharbekowitsch Barojew
Chassan Macharbekowitsch Barojew ( Russian Хасан Махарбекович Бароев ; born December 1, 1982 in Dushanbe , Tajikistan ) is a Russian wrestler of Ossetian origin. The 1.88 meter tall sports student wrestles at Torpedo Moscow and has been coached by Vladimir Urumagov since he was 16 years old.
Career
Before his career as a senior he started in 1999 for the first time at the World Championships for Cadets (age group in sport), at that time still in the class up to 85 kg. He finished second behind the Turkish Adem Tasci. Between 2000 and 2002 he competed twice as a junior at the European and World Championships; In 2000 he was junior world champion, in 2001 both junior European and world champion. In 2002 he started as a junior for the last time and became European champion again. In the meantime he started in the highest weight class, the heavyweight, which has its weight limit of 120 kg from 2002.
In 2003 he started as a senior at the European Championships in Belgrade for the first time . He finished seventh. But in the same year he had the big surprise with the world championship title. He defeated u. a. 2000 Olympic champion Rulon Gardner from the United States and Hungarians Mihály Deák Bárdos . He was able to surpass this success at the Olympic Games in Athens the following year . He won all of his fights there and thus won the gold medal. In the final he defeated the Kazakhs Georgi Tsurtsumia after he had previously beaten the favored Cuban Mijan Nunez Lopez.
In 2005 he paused at the international championships and in 2006 he had to bury his title dreams at the European championships in his native Moscow after a surprising defeat against Juha Ahokas from Finland. In the same year, however, he fought for 1st place at the World Championships in Guangzhou . In the final, he defeated Mijaín López with 13-0 on points.
2007 Chassan Barojew was again European champion in Sofia and defeated u. a. Jalmar Sjöberg from Sweden and David Vála from the Czech Republic. At this year's World Cup in Baku , he won the semi-finals over the strong American Dremiel Byers , but had to admit defeat to his old rival Mijain Lopez Nunez in the final and therefore only came in second. In the Olympic year 2008 he suffered a defeat at the European Championships in Tampere in the final against his Russian compatriot Yuri Patrikejew , who started for Kazakhstan, and thus came in 2nd place.
The year 2009 saw Chassan Barojew at no international championships at the start. In 2010 he started a comeback, which was only half successful at first. Although he was the Russian heavyweight champion ahead of Alexander Jekimow, Oleg Ilnizki and Anton Botew, he had to admit defeat to the largely unknown Kazakhs Nurmachan Tinälijew on points at the World Cup in Moscow after victories over Yannick Szczepaniak from France and Hani Sala Abdel Rahman Muralfy from Egypt and therefore only ended up in 7th place.
In 2011, after winning the renowned Iwan Poddubny Memorial in Tyumen in front of the entire Russian heavyweight elite, he was nominated again for the European Championships in Dortmund , where he won the decisive fights over Mihaly Deak Bardos, Heiki Nabi from Estonia and the defending champion Rıza Kayaalp from Turkey, again the title. He was not at the start at the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul.
In 2012, Chassan Barojew tried to defend his 2011 title at the European Championships in Belgrade . But he did not succeed, because he lost in the final this time against Riza Kayaalp and had to give him the title. Then he tried to fight for the Russian team at the tournament in Sofia a starting place for the Olympic Games in London in the heavyweight division. But he didn't succeed either, because he only finished 8th in Sofia. Only at the very last opportunity, the qualification tournament in Helsinki , did he win and thus the right to start the Olympic Games in London . In London, however, he had disappointed, because he lost his first fight against his old rival Yuri Patrikeev. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only finished 14th.
doping
At the Olympic Games in Beijing , Baroev was doped with Turinabol when he faced Mijain Lopez Nunez again in the final. The silver medal, which was achieved by illegal means at the time, was subsequently withdrawn from the athlete on November 17, 2016 following a notification from the IOC due to doping .
