Johan Magnus Eurén (born May 18, 1985 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish wrestler . He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games and several heavyweight medals at World and European Championships, each in the Greco-Roman style.
Career
Johan Eurén learned to be a plumber as a teenager and began wrestling in 1992. He became a member of the Örgryte Gothenburg sports club . In his career he has been trained by Kenneth Aastedt, Magnus Pernheim and Anders Hansson. He concentrates entirely on the Greco-Roman style and grew into the heavyweight division at a height of 1.90 meters. He is also known in Germany because he has been wrestling in the German Bundesliga for RWG Mömbris-Königshofen since 2009 .
As a junior he was already at the start at international championships. He started with a 23rd place in the light heavyweight division at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Istanbul . In 2004 he finished 7th at the European Junior Championships in Murska Subotica in the light heavyweight division. A year later, in 2005, he came in 7th place at the Junior World Championships in Vilnius in the light heavyweight division, but in the same year he won his first medal in one at the European Junior Championships in Wrocław in the same weight class with 3rd place international championship.
In the senior sector, he was now wrestling in the heavyweight division, and for a long time was in the shadow of Jalmar Sjöberg and Jimmy Lidberg . In 2007 he finished 3rd in the Swedish heavyweight championship behind Jalmar Sjöberg and Jimmy Lidberg and in 2008 behind Jalmar Sjöberg 2nd. It was also used in the 2008 Olympic qualification tournament in Rome , but only came in 9th place and thus missed a starting place in Beijing .
In 2009 Johan Eurén was the first Swedish heavyweight champion ahead of Jalmar Sjöberg and Milto Mietiadous. At the World and European Championships this year it has not yet been used. In 2010 he lost in the final of the Swedish championship against Jimmy Lidberg, but was nominated for the European championship in Baku . There he won over Alexander Tschernizki, Ukraine , and Mihály Deák Bárdos , Hungary , and was defeated in the semifinals against Radomir Petkovic , Serbia , just 1: 2 rounds. In the fight for a European Championship bronze medal, he defeated Vladimir Guralsky from Israel and won this medal. He was then at the start of the World Championships in Moscow and won there first over Ralf Böhringer from Germany and Alexander Tschernizki, but suffered defeats against Juri Patrikejew and Rıza Kayaalp , which threw him back to 9th place.
In 2011 he lost his first fight against Rıza Kayaalp at the European Championships in Dortmund , but was able to continue in the consolation round and defeated David Lengyel from Slovakia and Nico Schmidt from Germany there. However, he lost the fight for an EM bronze medal against Yuri Patrikejew just on points (1: 2 rounds, 1: 2 points). At the World Championships in Moscow Johan Eurén lost to the multiple world champion Mijaín López from Cuba, then came in the consolation round to victories over Murat Ramonow from Kyrgyzstan and Juri Patrikejew, but then lost to Bashir Asgari Babajanzadeh from Iran and finally landed on the 12th place. Space.
In 2012 he won the bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in London . He defeated Nurmachan Tinalijew, Mihaly Deak-Bardos, Hungary, and Bashir Asgari Babajanzadeh, then lost to Heiki Nabi from Estonia and secured his bronze medal by defeating Iossif Tschugaschwili , Belarus.
In 2013 he competed in the World Championships in Budapest. He defeated Ali Nadim, Iraq , and then lost his next fight against Amir Ali-Akbari from Iran. Since Amir Ali-Akbari then became world champion, Johan Eurén was able to advance in the consolation round. In this he defeated Oleksandr Tschernezkyj and Eduard Popp from Germany. He lost the battle for a bronze medal against Rıza Kayaalp. When Amir Ali-Akbari's doping sample was checked after the World Cup, it turned out that he was doped. He was then stripped of the world championship title by the world wrestling association FILA and Johan Eurén subsequently received a bronze medal.
Johan Eurén won another bronze medal at the 2014 European Championships in Vantaa / Finland . He defeated Eduard Popp from Germany and Saba Schariati from Azerbaijan in the heavyweight division, which after a reallocation of the weight classes has had its weight limit of 130 kg since January 1, 2014, then lost to Ljubomir Dimitrov from Bulgaria and won over Bálint Lám from Hungary. At the 2014 World Cup in Tashkent, he won over Mindaugas Mizgaitis from Lithuania and Sabah Shariati, Azerbaijan, but lost to the multiple world champion in free style Biljal Machow from Russia, who competed in this World Cup in Greco-Roman style. Because Biljal Machow did not reach the final, Johan Euren was eliminated and finished in 7th place.
In March 2016 Johan Euren again won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Riga. On the way to this success he defeated Igors Kostins from Latvia and Iakobi Kajaia from Georgia, lost in the semifinals to Riza Kayaalp from Turkey just by points (2: 4) and then secured himself with a point win over Vitali Schchur, Russia (2: 2: 1), this medal. He still had to qualify for a start at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In his first attempt in Ulaan-Baatar he failed because he only came in 9th place there. In May 2016, however, he managed this qualification by winning a tournament in Istanbul. He won there ahead of Iakobi Kajaia.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Johan Euren first won over Iwan Popow from Australia, but then lost to Mijain Lopez Nunez from Cuba and Heiki Nabi, which meant that he was eliminated and finished in 8th place. Then he ended his wrestling career.
