The RWG Mömbris-Königshofen (full name Ringerwettkampfgemeinschaft Mömbris-Königshofen ) is a German wrestling club whose members are also called Kahlgrund wrestlers.

history

The RWG was founded in 1978 from the associations KSC Mömbris and SV Königshofen . The team was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1983 . After the first season, however, the relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga followed .

In 1985 the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga took place again and in 1989 there was the first entry into the final round of the German championship . In 1991 and 1994, RWG was runner-up in each case. In 2001 and 2003 the team reached the quarter-finals. In 2006 the semi-finals were reached against Weingarten, but they were lost against Luckenwalde. The final round was also reached in the years 2007 to 2010. In 2008 the RWG reached the semi-finals again. Here the future master Köllerbach was the final destination. In 2009, the RWG Marketing und Sportförderungs-GmbH was founded to promote operations in the 1st Wrestling League with marketing measures and sales events.

In 2015 they finished the Bundesliga round in third place in the northern group and came fourth in Group A in the subsequent final round.

In 2016 the 1st team withdrew voluntarily from the 1st Bundesliga after 30 years of membership, but became champions of the Oberliga Hessen in the first year of the restart. Due to the current financial and personnel situation, the decision was made not to exercise the right of promotion, as the merger of the Bundesliga South with the Bundesliga North left the young team with unclear prospects of success.
