lightning strike

During a thunderstorm on March 29, 1927, lightning struck the Wendelinus Church in Königshofen at 3:45 p.m. without igniting. The slate- roofed tower was thrown down and the top of the tower dug into the earth. The tower wall tore and partially collapsed. The still standing masonry pushed out and threatened to collapse as well. The organ , the stairs to the gallery and the strong corner posts that supported the organ were destroyed. All windows, mostly made of colored glass, were thrown out together with the lead. There was probably an explosion in the church . The roofs of the neighboring houses were still damaged 70 meters away by thrown rock. Shortly after the impact, you saw a glow of fire and clouds of smoke, but they immediately disappeared again.
