BorWin1
Location of the two converter stations |
BorWin1 is an offshore HVDC connection in the German North Sea that connects the offshore wind farm " BARD Offshore 1 " to the European network . BorWin1 is the first high-voltage direct current transmission connection in Germany whose systems are equipped with bipolar transistors with insulated gate electrodes (IGBT).
The line, whose endpoints are located at the wind farm in the North Sea on the converter platform “ BorWin alpha ” built for this purpose and on land immediately west of the 380 kV substation in Diele , consists of a 75-kilometer underground and a 125-kilometer long one Submarine cable that runs through the southeastern North Sea or the Wadden Sea ( Norderney Island to Hilgenriedersiel ).
The construction and operation of the submarine cable in the North Sea within the German Exclusive Economic Zone was approved by the responsible Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) on July 1, 2009.
The system built by TenneT TSO GmbH and ABB can transmit a maximum output of 400 megawatts with a symmetrical operating voltage of 150 kV .
In contrast to most of the other HVDC systems, almost all of the system's components in the Diele converter station are located in the converter hall, which is 74 m long, 38 m wide and 14 m high.
Parallel to the location of the BorWin-1 cable, cable laying work for the HVDC BorWin 2 took place in May 2012, which is to connect to another wind farm cluster. The work in the open North Sea was carried out by the laying vessel "Giulio Verne".
Due to technical problems, in particular network shutdowns and defects due to smoldering fires, the converter station was out of operation for months.
