NN (location) , the lowest is at the confluence of the Reichenbach in the Kahl at 169 m above sea level. NN (location) .
Surname
According to tradition, the name Schimborn is derived from:
- from Shimmering Born , a fountain that shines noticeably, but no longer exists or
- from Schimmel am Born , which is considered rather unlikely.
In the Eppstein fiefdom register from 1190, Schimborn is mentioned with Schoneburnen = beautiful fountain. This is the only conveniently accessible, practical drinking point for humans and animals in the Kahlgrund. This fountain still exists, it is the Gemeine Börnchen (Born for the general public) not far from the Rose Inn , but overbuilt by the 2305 state road . In the Kahlgründer dialect the place is called Schimmern today.
The locals were often called "Schimmerner Woanze" in the area, whereby the dialect expression "Woanze" is possibly derived from the blood-sucking insect "Wanze".
history
The village was first mentioned in a document in Eppstein's fief register in 1190. After the Thirty Years' War, when it was completely devastated, the Glaab and Rosenberger families rebuilt it.
The industry in Schimborn used to consist mainly of tobacco processing and the production of apple juice and cider.
While the tobacco industry has now disappeared, Schimborn is still surrounded by many apple fields - almost every family has at least one. At the end of September you can always find people breaking their apples (picking them for consumption) or reading ( picking up windfalls).
The community belonged to the Alzenau district office , which was formed on July 1, 1862. On January 1, 1939, this became part of the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia . With its dissolution, Schimborn came to the newly formed district of Aschaffenburg on July 1, 1972 .
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Königshofen adKahl was incorporated into Schimborn. Both villages became part of the Mömbris market on May 1, 1978.

→ Main article : Kaltenberg
The district's tithe barn stood in Kaltenberg, The tithe in front of the Spessart . District court was held at this place from an early age, from 1650 the Oberschultheiß had its seat here. In 1950, Kaltenberg was incorporated into Schimborn and in 1978 moved with Schimborn to the Mömbris market.
Home
Already in 1594 the farm was marked on the Pfinzing map and mentioned as Hawenhof. In 1650 a Johannes Glaab (Klaib), called Fuhrhannes, who had served as a servant on the Hauhof and did military service, is said to have rebuilt the deserted place Schimborn together with his war comrade Peter Rosenberger after the peace was concluded. The Hauhof was once the Electoral Mainz and royal Bavarian state domain. Today it is a popular destination with a restaurant and guesthouse.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
- Schimborn is, so to speak, the gateway to the Kahlgrund , as everyone who comes from exit 61 (Hösbach) of the A 3 inevitably touches Schimborn, no matter which direction they take afterwards.
- The A3 motorway (approx. 9 km away) leads to Frankfurt am Main (approx. 40 km away) and Würzburg (approx. 80 km away).
- State road 2307 begins in Schimborn and leads via Hösbach train station to Straßbessenbach .
- Schimborn has a train station on the Kahl – Schöllkrippen railway line .
- State road 2305 runs through the village . At the moment there is a controversial discussion about possible routes to relieve the town center, none of which, however, find a clear majority. The complete bypass (south route) favored in a public survey by approx. 53% of those involved (voter turnout approx. 56%) could not be implemented due to the enormous costs of 18 million euros, compared to the (north route) with costs of 8 million euros. As an alternative, the Schimborn thoroughfare will be expanded for 8.1 million euros over the next 3 years from 2016 to 2018.

Attractions
The construction of the old parish church of St. James the Elder in Schimborn began in 1874. Two predecessor churches stood in the same place, and there was a monastery there from the 13th to the 16th century. The church was built in the Gothic style and was no longer used from 1975 after a new church was built. After the founding of an association for the preservation of the old church in 1985, its activities saved the building from deterioration. In 2000, the old parish church was given back to its ecclesiastical purpose with an altar consecration by Auxiliary Bishop Helmut Bauer and has since served as a place of worship for special occasions. It was equipped with a Gothic high altar, a celebration altar, two side altars with frescoes, a Way of the Cross, a baptistery and a Christmas crib consisting of life-size figures.
The field chapel Maria im Aufgang was donated in 1984 by Auxiliary Bishop Helmut Bauer to his home parish. Every year on the Assumption of Mary , the consecration day of the place of worship, a procession and a prayer service are held.
The old school was built in 1897, later served as the town hall and now houses rehearsal rooms for the local clubs.
The war memorial of both world wars is located in front of the old school building and the old parish church and was built in 1922.
