Lower Main is a dialect of South Hessian ( Rheinfränkisch ), which is spoken in Lower Main in Bavaria , in and around Aschaffenburg and Obernburg and north of Miltenberg .

Language area

The language area stretches in the east to the “ Spessart Barrier ” ( Äppeläquator ), which clearly separates it from Lower Franconian . In the south it borders on the Odenwald and in the west on the Odenwald language area. Lower Main itself is divided into several language areas. For example, there are differences between the Aschaffenburger, the Kahlgründer or the Großostheimer dialect.

Well-known speakers of the Lower Main dialect are the cabaret artist Urban Priol and the radio and television presenter and cabaret artist Johannes Scherer (moderator) .
