Career
Fatih Çakıroğlu grew up in Istanbul and started wrestling there at the age of 7 in 1988. He was trained by his father Enis Çakiroğlu, his first club was the GOPAS Güres Kulubü Istanbul sports club . As an adult, he joined the Turkish army and became a member of the Amasya Seker Spor sports club . He wrestles exclusively in free style.
In the junior sector he dominated his weight class in Turkey for several years and started between 1997 and 2001 in seven international championships (junior world and European championships) in light heavy and heavyweight. He did not succeed in winning a medal.
Fatih Çakıroğlu only broke the knot in 2002, when he won an EM bronze medal with four wins at the European Light Heavyweight Championships in Baku . He won this medal with a victory over Wadym Tassoew from Ukraine . At the 2002 World Cup in Tehran , he lost his first fight against Eldari Luka Kurtanidze from Georgia , who was world champion in this weight class this year and 2003 . Because of the peculiar rules in force at the time, a victory in his next fight over Bartłomiej Bartnicki from Poland was of little use to him. He was eliminated after the 2nd round and only came in 14th place.
Was Fatih Çakıroğlu in 2003 Riga even Vice- light heavyweight European champion . He defeated Cengiz Cakici from Germany , Vusal Muslimow from Azerbaijan and others. Radovan Valach from Austria . In the final he was defeated by Hadschimurad Gazalov from Russia . At the 2003 World Cup, however, he was not used.
In 2004 Fatih Çakıroğlu won the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Athens in Bratislava with a 2nd place behind Magomed Ibragimow from Uzbekistan a starting place in these games. At the 2004 European Championships in Ankara he disappointed in the light heavyweight division, however, because after defeating the Swiss Rolf Scherrer , he lost in his second fight against Wadym Tassoew and therefore only reached 11th place. He was also not very successful at the Olympic Games in Athens itself. Although he defeated the Mongols Enkhtuya Tuvinshintur in his first fight, but lost in his second fight against Aljaksandr Shamarau from Belarus , which he was eliminated and ended up in 9th place. A small consolation for him was then the victory at the CISM military world championship in 2004 in Vilnius , where he won the light heavyweight title before the Belarusian M. Michilowitsch u. Jamal E. Mohammed from Qatar.
Fatih Çakıroğlu then won a medal again at the 2005 European Championships in Varna . After victories over Radovan Valach u. He lost to Tomasz Janiszewski from Poland in the semi-finals against Vincent Aka Akesse from France , but defeated Vasily Tesmenezki from Ukraine in the battle for the bronze medal . He had less luck at the world championship this year in Budapest , because he lost there in his second fight against Bartłomiej Bartnicki and therefore only reached 14th place.
In 2006 Fatih Çakıroğlu decided to switch to the heavyweight division in order to be able to avoid constant training. His next assignment at an international championship took place in 2007 at the European Championship in Sofia . There he immediately succeeded in winning a medal in the heavyweight division. He defeated Ruslan Bassijew from Armenia and David Vála from the Czech Republic , but lost in the semifinals to the multiple world champion Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow from Russia . He then won the bronze medal with a victory over the strong Azerbaijani Ali Isayev . Fatih Çakıroğlu also delivered an excellent performance at the 2007 World Cup in Baku . There he defeated Arjan Bhullar from Canada , Efstathios Topalidis from Greece and Marid Mutalimow from Kazakhstan and was only defeated in the semifinals against Biljal Valeryevich Machow from Russia. He just lost the battle for the bronze medal against Wadym Tassoew .
In 2008 and 2009, Fatih Çakıroğlu then came to no more appearances in the major international championships. Aydın Polatçı and Recep Kara secured Turkey's starting places in the heavyweight division during these years . But he took part in the Mediterranean Games in Pescara in 2009 and won the heavyweight division there in front of Ioannis Arzoumanidis from Greece and Francesco Miano-Petta from Italy .
In 2010 he was back at the European Championships in Baku and fought his way there with three wins in the final, in which he was defeated by the Olympic champion Biljal Machow . At this year's World Cup in Moscow he was not so successful because he lost his first fight there against Aljaksej Schamarau from Belarus and was eliminated early. At the European Championship in Dortmund he finally managed to win one of the major international championships. With victories over Alexander Chozianiwski, Ukraine, Dániel Ligeti , Hungary, Nick Matuhin , Germany, a. Aljaksej Schamarau he became European champion there .
