Ruslan Basiyev ( Armenian Ռուսլան Բասիև , Russian Руслан Басиев ; born June 20, 1979 ) is an Armenian wrestler of North Ossetian origin. In 2009 he became vice European champion in free style in the heavyweight division (up to 120 kg body weight (KG)).

Career

Ruslan Basiev came to wrestling in Vladikavkaz in North Ossetia. There, at a height of 1.88 meters, he developed into a full-grown heavyweight weighing almost 120 kg. He wrestles exclusively in free style. Until 2005 he was fighting for Russia . In those years he could never quite reach the top in Russia and did not appear in the international championships. From 2005, however, a use at the tournament of the Cuban Wrestling Association in Sancti Spíritus is known. Ruslan Basiev, who now lives in Yerevan , was trained by Aslan Gabarajew or Araik Bagdassarjan .

In 2006 Ruslan Basiev moved from the Russian Wrestling Association to the Armenian. He then started at the European Championships in Moscow , but lost his first fight there against Boschidar Bojadschiew from Bulgaria , with which he was eliminated according to the regulations at the time and only finished 14th. Things went much better for him at the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou, China . There he defeated Ivan Ishchenko from Ukraine , Jose Cuba Vázquez from Spain , Otto Aubeli from Hungary and Recep Kara from Turkey and only lost to Olympic champion Artur Taymazov , an Ossetian compatriot starting for Uzbekistan , and won the bronze medal in the heavyweight division.

At the European Championships in Sofia in 2007 and at the 2007 World Championships in Baku , Ruslan Basiev won his first fight, but was eliminated from both championships after defeats in the second fight. In Sofia he lost to Fatih Çakıroğlu from Turkey and in Baku to Marid Mutalimow from Kazakhstan . He finished ninth and twelve.

He achieved a similar result at the 2008 European Championships in Tampere . Here he retired early after a defeat against Bakhtiyar Akhmedov from Russia and came in 11th place. In two subsequent Olympic qualification tournaments in Martigny / Switzerland and in Warsaw , he did not manage to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing with places ten and fourteen .

He did not give up, however, and fought his way to the final, in which he lost against Əli İsayev from Azerbaijan on points and against Əli İsayev from Azerbaijan, with victories against Sergejs Djonins from Latvia , Dawit Otiaschwili from Georgia and Vasyl Tesmenezkyj from Ukraine at the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius so that was vice European champion . At the World Championships in Herning / Denmark and also at the international championships in 2010 and 2011, Ruslan Basijew could no longer place in the front field.
