Bachtijar Schachabutdinowitsch Achmedov ( Russian Бахтияр Шахабутдинович Ахмедов , scientific transliteration Bachtijar Šachabutdinovič Achmedov ; born August 5, 1987 ) is a Russian wrestler .

Career

Bakhtiyar Akhmedov is Kumyk and comes from Dagestan . He started wrestling as a teenager in 1997 and is a member of Dinamo Makhachkala . His trainer is Imanmurza Aliyev. The 1.90 m tall and approx. 115 kg heavy athlete is a sports student. He wrestles exclusively in free style.

Bakhtiyar Akhmedov was one of the best wrestlers in the world in the respective age groups (Cadets, Juniors). In 2003 and 2004 he was respectively Junior European Champion (Cadets) in Skopje and Istanbul in the weight class up to 100 kg body weight. In 2007 he was European Junior Champion (Juniors) in Belgrade ahead of Oleh Ivanov, Ukraine a . Mario-Cristian Marian, Romania and in Beijing Junior World Champion ahead of Mohamed Reza Azar Shakib Seyed from Iran and Zhiwei Deng from the People's Republic of China , both in the heavyweight division.

In 2007 he was also used in the Russian senior team at the World Cup in Krasnoyarsk . He came 4th in the individual ranking behind Alireza Rezaei from Iran, Tolly Thompson from the United States and Aljaksej Schamarau from Russia .

In 2008 he won the heavyweight competition at the "Ivan Yarigin" tournament in Krasnoyarsk. He left his Russian compatriots, the multiple world and Olympic champion Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow and the 2007 world champion Biljal Machow behind. He thus set the course for a great career in the senior sector. At the European Championships in Tampere in 2008, however, he suffered a setback, because he lost his second fight there against the Russian Olympic champion in 2000 David Musuľbes , who, after a break of several years, celebrated a successful comeback, starting for Slovakia . With victories over Ottó Aubéli from Hungary and the Turkish ex-world champion Aydın Polatçı , he reached 3rd place.

At the Russian championship in June 2008 in Saint Petersburg , Akhmedov finally won the ticket to the Olympic Games in Beijing by winning the heavyweight title ahead of Aljaksej Schamarau and Bilyal Machow . There he was one of the main favorites with David Musuľbes and the American Steve Mocco , he first won the silver medal behind Artur Taymazov from Uzbekistan , who was convicted of doping in 2017. Akhmedov was subsequently awarded the gold medal.

In December 2008 Bakhtiyar Akhmedov was seriously injured in a knife fight and took several years to fully recover.
