Ahmet Doğu (born November 26, 1973 ) is a former Turkish wrestler .

Career

Ahmet Doğu grew up in Istanbul and began there in 1984 with the rings . He became a member of the “Tekel” Istanbul sports club. His trainer was Müsamettin Oruş . He wrestled mainly in free style and grew up to a handsome heavyweight of about 100 kg body weight at a height of 1.80 meters as a senior. 1991 was in Istanbul Junior European Champion in the class up to 88 kg body weight.

Ahmet Doğu's first appearance at an international senior championship was at the 1994 European Championships in Rome . There he finished eighth in the light heavyweight division. At the world championship of the same year in Istanbul , he took a good sixth place. In 1995 and 1996 he was not used in the international championships. In those years his teammates Ali Kayalı and Kenan Şimşek represented Turkey.

Ahmet Doğu then recorded the greatest success of his wrestling career at the 1997 World Cup. In Krasnoyarsk , he managed to become vice world champion. He was only defeated in the final against the new Russian wrestling star Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow .

In 1998 and 1999 he achieved placings between places five and ninth at the international championships, with fifth place at the 1999 European championships in Minsk being his best result.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , he met in the first round against fellow favorites Alireza Heidari from Iran , to whom he was defeated with 1: 6 points. In his second fight, too, he surprisingly suffered a defeat against the Swiss Rolf Scherrer with 3: 4 points and ended up only in sixteenth place, which was disappointing for him. After that he did not take part in any international championships.
