Khadzhimurad Gazalov

Chadschimurad Soltanowitsch Gazalow ( Russian Хаджимурад Солтанович Гацалов ; born December 11, 1982 in Tschikola , North Ossetia , Soviet Union ) is a Russian wrestler of Ossetian origin. He is Olympic champion in 2004 and multiple world and European champion in free style in light heavyweight and heavyweight .

Career

Hadzhimurad Gazalov grew up in Vladikavkaz and started wrestling there at the age of 11. He comes from an Ossetian family where wrestling has been practiced for a long time. Three of his uncles were also wrestlers. In Vladikavkaz he was introduced to the Russian top class in freestyle wrestling by the junior coach WW Tschebojew. After winning the junior world title in 2001 in Tashkent in the middleweight division, he went to Moscow and joined the CSKA Moscow Army Sports Club. He is still a member of this club today, but still has close ties to his hometown of Vladikavkaz. In Moscow he was trained by Vladimir Golubov. The head coach of the Russian national freestyle team, Jambulat Tedejew , also an Ossete, took great care of Khadjimurad Gazalov.

After consolidating his achievements as a young wrestler, he was sent to Riga in 2003 for the European Senior Championship . In Riga he immediately became European light heavyweight champion with five wins . On the way to this title he defeated world-class wrestlers like Luka Eldari Kurtanidze from Georgia , Wadym Tassoew from Ukraine and in the final Fatih Çakıroğlu from Turkey , against whom he won 4-1 points.

He defended this title in Ankara in 2004 . Four victories were enough for him. In the first fight, the German Martin Siddique had to admit defeat against Chadschimurad Gazalow with 0:10 points and Wadym Tassoew also had no chance in the final. In the subsequent qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens , Chadschimurad Gazalow had to do hard work to prevail in the Russian championship against his many competitors such as Shamil Gitinow , Chadschimurad Magomedow and Shirvani Muradov .

In Athens, Khadjimurad Gazalov was at his best. He won the light heavyweight division over opponents as difficult as Wadym Tassoew, Aljaksandr Schamarau from Belarus , Daniel Cormier from the USA (5-0) and Magomed Ibragimov from Uzbekistan (4-1) and won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division.

At the European Championships 2005 in Varna , Chadschimurad Gazalow suffered a narrow 1: 2 point defeat in his semi-final fight against Luka Eldari Kurtanidze and then only came in 3rd place after defeating Sergei Pernikow from Belarus. At the world championship of the same year in Moscow , however, he managed to get revenge against Kurtanidze, which he narrowly but surely scored 2-0 in the final and thus became world champion again.

In 2006 and 2007, Khadzhimurad Gazalov was unbeatable. He became world champion in both years and also European champion in 2006. At the European Championships in 2007 he was not at the start. He defeated such top performers as Georgi Gogschelidze from Georgia , Michael Batista Martinez from Cuba , Kurban Kurbanow from Uzbekistan , Magomed Ibragimov and again Luka Eldari Kurtanidze.

At the European Championships in Tampere in 2008 , he had to accept a defeat after a long time. Georgi Gogschelidze narrowly defeated him with 5: 4 points, with which Chadschimurad Gazalow could only win the European Championship bronze medal after a victory in the fight for 3rd place over Ruslan Scheikow from Belarus .

One can look forward to his performance at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

In an interview in Vladikavkaz at the end of 2007, Khadzhimurad Gazalov, who has completed his sports degree, also said, interestingly, how the top Russian wrestlers are rewarded. He said that an Olympic champion received from the Board of Trustees for the Promotion of Wrestling in Russia $ 5,000 a month, a world champion received $ 4,000 a month, and a European champion received $ 3,000 a month. In addition, there are bonuses and salary as a sports soldier.

There is no need to ask about Khadjimurad Gazalov's performance at the 2008 Olympic Games because he was not used there. He was also absent from the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius . He then celebrated a successful comeback at the 2009 World Cup in Herning / Denmark , where he was again world champion with five wins. In the final battle he defeated Chetag Gasjumow from Azerbaijan with 3-2 techn. Points and 2: 1 rounds. Between these championships he had become Russian light heavyweight champion before Said Ibragimow and Georgi Ketojew .

In 2010, Chadschimurad Gazalow was back at the World Cup . In Moscow he could not defend his light heavyweight title from 2009. After four wins he lost there in the final to his old Caucasian rival Chetag Gasjumow with 1: 2 rounds (1: 2 points) on points.

In July 2011, Hadschimurad Gazalow was again Russian champion before Yuri Belonowski from Krasnoyarsk and Abdussalam Gadissow from Dagestan. At the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul , he first won over William Harth from Germany and Nicolai Ceban from Moldova, but lost in his third fight against Taimuras Tigijew from Kazakhstan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 11th place.

In 2012 he finished 2nd in the Russian light heavyweight championship behind Abdussalam Gadissow and was not used at any international championship this year. In 2013 he reached the Russian championship in April of this year in the light heavyweight division behind Ansor Boltukayev and Abdussalam Gadissow in 3rd place. He was therefore not used at the European Championships this year. All of a sudden, Chadschimurad Gazalow appeared in the heavyweight division at the Wacław Ziółkowski Memorial in Spała in August 2013 . But he could not convince there and ended up in 8th place. Nevertheless, the Russian Wrestling Federation used him at the 2013 World Heavyweight Championship in Budapest. Although he was one of the lightest heavyweights there, he dominated this weight class and became world champion with victories over Kurban Kurbanow , Uzbekistan, Korey Jarvis, Canada, Deng Zhilei , China, Geno Petriaschwili , Georgia and Alen Zassejew , Ukraine.
