Muhammed Lawal
Muhammed Lawal (born January 11, 1981 in Plano , Texas , nickname King Mo ) is an American wrestler , wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter. He was the 2007 Pan American Light Heavyweight Free Style Champion.
Career
Muhammed Lawal grew up in the city of his birth as the son of Nigerian immigrants and attended Plano East High School there . He began in 1996 with the rings after he had previously operated athletics, swimming and football. From 1999 he attended the University of Central Oklahoma and in 2003 Oklahoma State University . He made this change in order to train with coaches Terry Brands and John Smith . He only wrestled in free style. After 2003 he lived in Stillwater , Oklahoma , and was a member of the Gator Wrestling Club .
From 2001 to 2003 he took part in the NCAA Championships. He took 2nd place in Division II in 2001 and 1st place in 2002. In Division II wrestlers started who could not qualify for Division I in the qualifying fights. In 2003 he started in Division I and took 3rd place in the light heavyweight division behind Damion Hahn and Jon Trenge.
In 2003 he was also the first time in a World Championship elimination (Trials), but came in the middleweight division behind Cael Sanderson , Lee Fullhart and Brandon Eggum only on 4th place. In 2005, Muhammed Lawal won the US Middleweight Championship in front of Lee Fullhart u. Tyler Nixt and was able to qualify for the World Championship in Budapest with a victory at the World Championship trials . There he won the fights against Ibrahim Al Khatib from Lebanon and Ruslan Samenkow from Kyrgyzstan , before he lost in his third fight against Saschid Saschidow from Russia and came in 7th place.
In 2006, Muhammed Lawal was again US middleweight champion in front of Lee Fullhart and Clint Wattenberg, but finished behind Andy Hrovat u at the World Championship trials . Clint Wattenberg only took 3rd place. In 2007 he came in both the USA championship and the world championship trials in light heavyweight behind Daniel Cormier in each case on the 2nd place. Since the US Wrestling Association only uses the winners of the trials at the international championships, it was not used at the world championships in these two years. He started in 2007 but at the Pan American Championships in San Salvador and won there in the light heavyweight division before Luis Vivenes from Venezuela , Arnulfo Hernandez Gonzalez from Colombia and Michel Batista Martinez from Cuba .
In 2008, Muhammed Lawal won his third USA championship in middleweight ahead of Andy Hrovat and Bryse Hasseman. At the Olympic Trials, however, he had to admit defeat to Andy Hrovat in three encounters with 1: 2 wins and thus also missed the qualification for the Olympic Games in Beijing .
Muhammed Lawal ended his wrestling career and became a mixed martial arts fighter. He fought in this sport in Japan with Sengoku and in the United States with Strikeforce . His competition record as of August 21, 2010 was seven wins and one loss.
In 2012 he was banned for nine months after a positive doping test for anabolic steroids .
