Lee Fullhart (born June 10, 1976 ) is an American wrestler . He was the 2003 Pan American Middleweight Free Style Champion.
Career
Lee Fullhart studied at Iowa State University , where he developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler. He achieved his first major successes as a student wrestler. From 1996 to 1999 he started four times in a row at the so-called NCAA Championships (US American Student Championship). It has to be mentioned in this context that university wrestling is the backbone of all wrestling in the United States and almost all good wrestlers come from universities.
In 1996 he finished 4th at these championships, but in 1997 he was the first and only NCAA champion. He won ahead of John Kading and Tim Hartung . In 1998 he came third behind Tim Hartung and Jasen Robinson and in 1999 he was runner-up behind Tim Hartung. He always started in the light heavyweight division.
After graduating, he went to Stillwater , Oklahoma , and became a member of the Gator WC (Wrestling Club). There he was u. a. also trained by John Smith (wrestler) . From 2000 to 2008 he started regularly at the US championships, at the respective Olympic and World Championship eliminations (trials) and at many international competitions, where he trained in the middleweight division. At the beginning of his international wrestling career he was overshadowed by Cael Sanderson , the 2004 Olympic champion and from 2005 by Muhammed Lawal , Joe E. Williams and Andy Hrovat .
In 2000 he took 2nd place at the famous "Dave Schultz" Memorial in Colorado Springs behind Saschid Saschidow from Russia , but ahead of his compatriots Charles Burton and Brandon Eggum .
In 2002 he just missed qualifying for the World Cup in Tehran after a 3rd place in the USA championship . According to the mode at that time, Cael Sanderson and Lee Fullhart had to compete against each other three times in the World Championship trials. Cael Sanderson won this duel with 2-1 victories. In 2003 Lee Fullhart landed the greatest international success of his career. He was in Guatemala City Pan American middleweight champion before Yosmany Romero from Cuba and Nicholas Ugoalah from Canada .
In 2004 Lee Fullhart created a little sensation when he won the 2003 vice world champion Cael Sanderson at the US championship with a 5-2 techn. Defeated points and became American champion. In the subsequent Olympic Trials he was defeated by Sanderson again just 1: 2 wins. Cael Sanderson, who also became Olympic champion there, was therefore sent to the Olympic Games in Athens .
In the following years until 2005 Lee Fullhart always placed himself in the front of the field at the US championships, but never made it to a world championship in several world championship trials. In 2008 he tried again to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing , but was eliminated early in the qualifying round.
As of 2007 Lee Fullhart, who is married to a weightlifter, Doreen Fullhart, is a coach in Virginia and lives in Christiansburg (Virginia) .
