Jake Herbert

Jake Herbert (born March 6, 1985 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American wrestler .

Career

Jake Herbert, actually Jakob Herbert, who lives in Wexford, Pennsylvania, started wrestling at North Allegheny High School . He was still active in both styles, Greco-Roman and free style. He's only wrestled in free style since college. As a high school wrestler, he was a total of four Pennsylvania champions, twice each in the free and in the Greco-Roman style.

Since 2005, Jake Herbert attended Northwestern University in Evanston ( Illinois ). Since this year he has also participated in the NCAA Championships (US student championship) and achieved excellent results. In 2005 he was third, in 2006 second; In 2007 and 2008 he won the middleweight championship. In 2006 and 2007 he was also US student champion at the AAU .

In 2008, Jake Herbert made himself available to the US Olympic team in free style as a training partner and spent a few months in the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs before Beijing . He is a member of the New York Athletic Club . In 2009 Jake Herbert was first US middleweight champion before Eric Luedke .

As a success on the international wrestling mat, he has so far achieved a third place at the Universities World Championships in 2006 in Ulan Bator and in 2008 in Thessaloniki . Jake Herbert is considered the US Wrestling Association's great hope for the 2012 Olympic Games.

As early as 2009 he showed that these hopes are justified, because he became vice world champion in the middleweight division in Herning / Denmark . There he won over David Bichinaschwili from Germany , Sharif Sharifow , Azerbaijan, Gökhan Yavaşer , Turkey a. Abdussalam Gadissow from Russia , before he lost in the final against Sajurbek Sochijew from Uzbekistan on points (0: 2 technical points and 0: 2 rounds)

At the 2010 World Cup in Moscow , Jake Herbert suffered a setback as he lost his first fight against Reineris Salas Perez from Cuba. Since this did not reach the final battle in the further course of the tournament, it was already over for him after this defeat. He ended up in 25th place.

In 2011, Jake Herbert won again at the USA championship, but lost in the World Championship trials to the 2004 Olympic champion, Cael Sanderson , who made a comeback as a wrestler after many years as a coach. He was therefore not at the start at the 2011 World Cup. In October of this year he won the title at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara (Mexico) ahead of Humberto Arencibia Martinez from Cuba.
