Alexander Vladimirovich Ivanitsky
Alexander Vladimirovich Iwanizki ( Russian Александр Владимирович Иваницкий ; born December 10, 1937 in Jarowaja , Krasnolimansk Raion , Ukrainian SSR ; † July 2020 near Moscow ) was a Soviet wrestler .
Life
Alexander Ivanitsky grew up in Leningrad and attended the Leningrad Radio Technical Center as a teenager. He first played volleyball in the technical college team and later turned to judo . Since judo was not really making headway, he switched to wrestling and found the sport that was tailored to him, the now 1.90 m tall and 110 kg heavy athlete. The first successes came quickly. In 1962 he won the world championship for the first time. Ivanitsky wrestled exclusively in heavyweight, freestyle. He continued his education at the Institute for Physical Culture and Sport in Moscow and joined the Soviet Army after graduatinga. He later worked as a TV journalist . In September 2013 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .

- 1963, 1st place , World Cup in Sofia , F, S, with victories over Bohumil Kubát , Czechoslovakia , Herman, Romania , Peter Jutzeler , Switzerland , János Reznák , Hungary and a draw against Lyutwi Dschiber Achmedow;
- 1964, gold medal , OS in Tokyo , F, S, with victories over Larry Kristoff , USA, Tserendonoin Sandschaa , Mongolia , János Reznák, Ștefan Stîngu , Romania and a draw against Lyutwi Dschiber Akhmedov;
- 1965, 1st place , World Cup in Manchester , F, S, with victories over Roland Bock , Germany , Andersson, Sweden, Bohumil Kubát, Singh, India and a draw against Ljutwi Dschiber Achmedow and Larry Kristoff;
- 1966, 1st place , World Cup in Toledo / USA, F, S, with victories over Seo, Japan , Walko Kostow , Bulgaria, Roland Bock and a draw against Larry Kristoff.
National successes
Ivanitsky won the Soviet championship several times, but was replaced by Alexander Medwed in 1967 and, although unbeaten on the international mat, never again played at the Olympic Games or World or European Championships.
