Career

Youth and beginnings

Roland Bock grew up in Feuerbach . As a schoolboy, he turned to wrestling at the Feuerbach Sports Association, a traditional club that had been involved in heavy athletics since the turn of the century around 1900. He achieved excellent results in all junior categories in Baden-Württemberg in both styles (Greco-Roman and freestyle). In 1962 he was German youth champion in the class over 79 kg body weight.

Wrestling

In 1962 and 1965 he was also German junior heavyweight champion. In the meantime he has grown into a handsome heavyweight, with a height of 1.92 m he weighed around 120 kg, he soon became one of the best heavyweight wrestlers in Germany and Europe . In Germany from 1965 to 1972 he often met the old master Wilfried Dietrich , fought against him several times in a draw, but was never able to defeat him. The German Wrestling Federation also used it frequently on an international level and usually achieved good results. The high point of his career as an amateur wrestler were the European Championships in the Greco-Roman style in 1970 in Berlin (East), where he became European champion in a superior style and also defeated the Bulgarian world champion Alexandar Tomow . He also achieved a victory over the Soviet champion Anatoly Kochnev and a draw against the multiple world and Olympic champion Anatoly Roschtschin . Roland Bock, who had the best physical prerequisites and excellent technical skills, often failed as an amateur because of his nerves, which cost him even greater sporting success.

Wrestling

When Roland Bock was not nominated for the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 , he drew the consequences. The reason why he was not nominated: After the previous European Championships in Katowice, he fell out with the President of the German Wrestling Association, Hermann Schwindling, and was temporarily banned. In 1973 he switched to wrestling . He succeeded in a dazzling career. He was considered a downright no-seller and shooter and competed in Europe , America and Japan . In 1978 he defeated the legendary Japanese Antonio Inoki , who faced Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) in a sensational match in 1976 , in 4 minutes and 10 seconds. Another well-known opponent he defeated was Andre the Giant , who was also a multiple champion.

Even during his active time as a wrestler, Bock worked as a hotelier and film actor in the film " Hurricane Rosie " as "Mike Fernandez". In 1982 he ended his wrestling career at the age of 37.

After the sporting career

After about a year of construction, he opened the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg ("Rofa") on November 30, 1983 in a former refrigerator factory. The idea behind this was Otto Rossbacher, who is now managing director together with Christian Albrecht. The Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg attracted numerous well-known bands such as Metallica , Iron Maiden , Manowar , Nazareth , Mötley Crüe , Scorpions , Queen , Doro , Hammerfall , InExtremo , Subway to Sally , especially in the 80s and 90s . Even today the rock factory is an institution that is known throughout Germany.
