Jürgen Klinge (born June 27, 1940 in Leipzig ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Klinge grew up in Leipzig and began wrestling as a teenager. He became a member of the SC Leipzig and developed there into an excellent wrestler in the Greco-Roman style. In 1962 he was also known on the international wrestling level when he took 4th place in the light heavyweight division of the "Werner Seelenbinder Tournament" in Leipzig. From 1964 to 1972, Klinge was always able to place himself in the front of the field at the GDR championships in the Greco-Roman style in the light and heavyweight division. He was GDR champion a total of five times.

A curiosity on the side: In 1964, Klinge was GDR runner-up in the light heavyweight division behind Herbert Albrecht and three years later, in 1967, he became GDR light heavyweight champion in front of Peter Wismer and Fredi Albrecht , the son of Herbert Albrecht.

From 1965, the blade was also often used at the major international championships. His best results were a 5th place at the world championship in 1967 in Bucharest in the light heavyweight division, where he also managed a victory over the later multiple Swedish world champion Per Svensson and a 5th place at the European championship in Berlin in 1970 , where he beat the Romanian world champion Nicolae Martinescu won and he managed a draw against the Hungarian world class wrestler Ferenc Kiss . In 1969 and 1970 Jürgen Klinge suffered from the fact that the GDR had no wrestlers in the Greco-Roman for economic reasons. Stil sent to the World Championships and stayed away from the European Championships in Modena in 1969 for political reasons.

In 1968, Klinge also represented the GDR at the Olympic Games in Mexico City , but only came 12th there. In 1972 he was GDR heavyweight champion again before Fredi Albrecht from SC Motor Zella-Mehlis . At the Olympic Games that year in Munich, however, Fredi Albrecht was preferred to him by the GDR wrestling association. He then ended his wrestling career.
