Fredi Albrecht (born June 23, 1947 in Albrechts ) is a former German wrestler and referee .

Career

Fredi Albrecht was born to wrestle, so to speak, as Herbert Albrecht was his father several times all-German champion and multiple GDR champion . So he started wrestling at an early age and had great success as a teenager. He wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. When his great disposition became apparent, he switched to SC Motor Zella-Mehlis , where Helmut Albrecht from Viernau became his trainer. He also attended the children's and youth sports school in Zella-Mehlis . The 1.89 m tall athlete initially started in the light heavyweight class, but soon grew into the heavyweight division. In 1967 he took 3rd place at the GDR championships in the light heavyweight division, just three years after his father Herbert was last GDR champion in 1964. Fredi Albrecht also had a good international career, he became vice world and vice European champion.

After the end of his career as an active wrestler, Fredi Albrecht became a referee and was used six times at the Olympic Games.

After the political change in 1989/90, Fredi Albrecht moved to Veitshöchheim near Würzburg , where he still lives and works today.
