Andrzej Skrzydlewski

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrzej Skrzydlewski (born November 3, 1946 in Ksawerów near Łódź , † May 28, 2006 ibid) was a Polish wrestler.

Career

Andrzej Skrzydlewski was very strong as a teenager and was brought to wrestle by talent scouts from the PTC Pabianice sports club at the age of 17. He made rapid progress under coach Tadeusz Wnuk. He was therefore delegated to the central sports club “Wisłoce” Dębica , where Tadeusz Popiolek, Janusz Tracewski and Czeslaw Korzeń were his coaches for the next few years. From 1972 he represented the Polish colors in many international competitions. He was an excellent technician, but he was unlucky to have his best years just when in his weight class, the Soviet athletes Nikolai Jakowenko and Nikolai Balboschin, two almost unbeatable exceptional talents wrestled.

Nevertheless, he managed to beat Balboschin at the 1975 World Cup in Minsk and the 1976 European Championships in Leningrad . His "feared opponent" was the Bulgarian Kamen Lozanow Goranow , against whom he could not win a fight. The result of his wrestling effort was the win of five medals, including a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal .

In 1980 Andrzej ended his career as an active wrestler and worked after visiting the coaching academy in Katowice for many years as a coach, including a few years in Gothenburg, Sweden . He died surprisingly in 2006 at the age of 59.
