As early as 1961, Petr was ready to be used in international battles. He succeeded against the strong Bulgarian Radoslaw Kasabow and against the Soviet wrestler Sharov and others. However, he was defeated by István Kozma from Hungary, who dominated the heavyweight scene at the time, and Anatoli Roschtschin from the USSR, and finished in 4th place. At the next five international championships, Petr won the bronze medal every time. There were the 1965 World Championships in Tampere , the 1966 European Championships in Essen , the 1966 World Championships in Toledo / USA , the 1967 European Championships in Minsk and the 1967 World Championships in Bucharest . At each of these championships he lost to István Kozma and three times to the Soviet starter Nikolai Schmakow . In 1968 Petr Kment finally managed to win against István Kozma at the European Championships in Västerås and promptly became European champion with six brilliant victories. At the Olympic Games of the same year in Mexico City , however, the events from 1965 to 1967 were repeated. H. Petr Kment lost against István Kozma and against Anatoli Roschtschin and also against the Swede Ragnar Svensson , but still won the bronze medal before Svensson.

After 1969 Petr was not quite as successful, but won at the World Championships 1971 in Sofia again and one bronze at the World Championships 1973 in Tehran even the silver medal . At the European Championships in Berlin in 1970 , when Roland Bock from the Federal Republic of Germany won the title, Petr Kment was the only wrestler who reached a draw against Bock.
