Lawrence Dean "Larry" Kristoff (born November 11, 1942 in Carbondale ) is a former American wrestler .

Career

Larry Kristoff grew up in Mayor Daley , Illinois , and attended high school there. It was there that he began wrestling. After moving to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1962, he continued this sport and was soon very successful. He won various university championships and was used by the US Wrestling Association, which repeatedly relied on the wrestlers from the universities, from 1964 onwards at the World Championships and the Olympic Games. He won five medals, but could not win a title. In his first Olympic participation in Tokyo in 1964 , he won a victory over the 1960 Olympic champion Wilfried Dietrich from Germany . At the Freestyle World Championships in 1965, 1966 and 1967 he was undefeated and had to be content with places behind Ivanitsky, Akhmedov, Duraliev and Medved every time because he had a less favorable point ratio than these. Starting for the Mayor Daley Youth Fondation, he won the USA championship three times between 1969 and 1971.

After completing his sports degree, Larry Kristoff was first assistant coach and in 1979 head coach and professor at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville , where he also lives. Two of his sons also wrestled without getting as far as their father.
