Thomas Prager (born September 13, 1985 in Vienna ) is an Austrian football player . Between 2006 and 2009 he also played 14 games for the Austrian national soccer team .

Career

Thomas Prager began his career at the Austrian lower division team Waagner Biro Kagran / SV Hirschstetten and at the regional division FC Stadlau . In 2001, the midfielder was discovered by a Dutch talent scout at an indoor tournament and signed by SC Heerenveen .

Thomas Prager's professional career was marked by ups and downs. As a 20-year-old at SC Heerenveen at the time , he showed very good performances and became a great midfield hope for the Austrian national soccer team . He embodied a modern midfielder who is very fast and confident in the game, but also showed defensive strengths. The 2006/07 season was probably the most successful in Thomas Prager's career: he made it to a regular player in a good middle class club in the Dutch Eredivisie , made his team debut on May 23, 2006 in the 1: 4 defeat against Croatia and was a beacon of hope for the upcoming European Football Championship 2008 in their own country. On October 6, 2006, he scored his first goal for the national team in a 2-1 away win against Liechtenstein .

Only a year later, however, he lost his regular seat and his contract was not extended any further. A transfer to Spain to Racing Santander failed and he moved back to Austria to LASK Linz in August 2008 . Due to the past few months, he only followed the home European championship from the bench. However, the time at LASK was also very changeable. After the European Championships in 2008 he earned a regular place under Andrej Panadić and Klaus Lindenberger , but his performances were mixed. It was not until autumn 2009 that Prager found its way back to its old form at LASK. He held the hanging position and enjoyed a lot of freedom in the offensive game. This resulted in eight goals and nine assists in the first fifteen rounds. During this time he and his strike partner Roman Wallner formed the most dangerous duo in the league with a total of 39 scorer points . After a coach change and Roman Wallner's departure from LASK in winter 2009, he only managed one goal and assist. Since his engagement with the Linzers, therefore, ended in summer 2010 after a total of 51 games. On October 10, 2009, he played his last international match against Lithuania .

Before the start of the 2010/11 season, Thomas Prager moved to Switzerland for FC Luzern , making his second international engagement. This time was a very successful one for FC Luzern, but Prager often found himself in the role of reservist. He was only in the starting line-up in the first round of the Swiss Cup, but was unable to prevail in the Axpo Super League . At that time, the 25-year-old from Prague made only 18 substitutions. His contract with the Swiss ran for three years, but after just one season , Rapid Wien announced on June 1, 2011 that it would loan Prager for an initial year with an option for another year. There he was supposed to replace the emigrated Yasin Pehlivan after the transfer for Rapid had not worked out the year before. Although the Viennese have drawn the option of Thomas Prager and loaned him for another season from FC Luzern, both Rapid and Prager's performances were only moderate at this time. Thomas Prager played a total of 33 games for Rapid Vienna, but remained without a goal. After the two seasons with Rapid and the simultaneous end of the contract period with FC Luzern in summer 2013, Prager was without a club for the rest of the year. At the end of January 2014, the Vienna regional league club SC Wiener Viktoria announced the commitment of Thomas Prager.

After one season he moved to the Cypriot club Ethnikos Achna.
