Klaus Lindenberger (born May 28, 1957 in Linz ) is an Austrian soccer player and former team goalkeeper . He took part in the 1990 World Cup with the Austrian national team and, as a professional, was twice Austrian champion with FC Swarovski Tirol .
Career
Klaus Lindenberger began his professional career in 1976 at Linz ASK , for which he was the goalkeeper in the top Austrian league for almost ten years . Already on April 28, 1982 he made his debut in Austria's 2-1 victory over Czechoslovakia in the national team, but was not until the end of the 80s under team boss Josef Hickersberger as successor to Friedl Koncilias regular keeper of the team. At this time he also moved to FC Swarovski Tirol in 1988 , with whom he was able to win his first two championship titles en suite, and in the first year also the ÖFB Cup victory .
Klaus Lindenberger was also very successful in the national team at this time: They qualified for the 1990 World Cup in Italy , only just failed in the group phase, and the Upper Austrian played in all three preliminary round matches. For Klaus Lindenberger it was actually the second World Cup participation, in 1982 he traveled to Spain as the third goalkeeper. At FC Tirol, however, after the high European Cup defeat of 1: 9 against Real Madrid , then coach Ernst Happel made him jointly responsible for the debacle and henceforth no longer posted. Shortly after the World Cup, Klaus Lindenberger lost his place at Swarovski Tirol and was ousted by Michael Konsel in the national team .
The soccer goalie went back to Upper Austria, this time to FC Stahl Linz in the middle play-off, where he made a significant contribution to the rise of Linz. He played two more seasons in the Bundesliga before moving to Eintracht Wels in the regional league. He also worked as a trainer for the Upper Austrians. In 2002 he also founded the Ladies Soccer Club Linz (LSC Linz), which in 2004 became LASK Ladies in the women's soccer section of LASK . Lindenberger played football up to the age of 52 and ended his career in 2009 with the Upper Austrian SV Hellmonsödt (1st class northeast) after a total of 37 league appearances in over three years.
Then Klaus Lindenberger was LASK team leader . From October 27, 2008 he was also the coach of the Linz athletes. For this job he had covered all other previous tasks, both the job as goalkeeper coach for the national team and the position as goalkeeper at SV Hellmonsödt . He also resigned as Vice President of LASK and President of LASK Ladies. Lindenberger, who could not convince as a LASK trainer, was dismissed in spring 2009. After Lindenberger's dismissal on March 21, 2009, Hans Krankl took over as coach. Disappointed, Lindenberger declined to work for LASK in the management area and followed his former national coach colleague Josef Hickersberger to Abu Dhabi , where he had been the goalkeeper coach of the local al-Wahda since July 2009 . At the end of 2012 he returned to Austria and became a goalkeeper coach at the lower-class club SV Urfahr 1912. There he is still registered as an active player and is occasionally available as a substitute goalkeeper.
As from 2005 to 2008, Klaus Lindenberger has been the goalkeeper coach of the Austrian national soccer team since 2015 . He also led the ÖFB goalkeeper trainer training until the end of August 2018, which he completed for personal reasons. Interemenist Josef Schicklgruber takes over his duties .
In his private life Lindenberger is the father of a daughter (Kim), professionally he still owns the companies Immobilien Lindenberger and fast & clean (building cleaning).
